Based on a suggestion by: Arch Stanton - originally there were only two in this death match but having thought of two more rubbish robots I decided this week's vote is a four way 'scrap it out'. No fence sitting this week - one of these must be condemned for crimes against television standards and sent down the recycling meltdown route - but which one was the most useless and/or annoying? Metal Mickey Twiki (Buck Rogers) K9 (Doctor Who) Robot B-9 (thankfully Lost in Space)

I liked it when I was a child but I can't believe I ever liked it. It was sh*te. I don't think Metal Mickey ever did anything useful like a robot should. I liked K9 and didn't mind Twiki in 'Buck Rogers' and B-9 in 'Lost In Space'.

Oh dear, oh dear... By rights it should be Metal Mickey... Although K-9 was a uber annoying, clever assed little twerp! I'm not sure what Twiki's doing in here!!?? He should be in a 'coolest TV robots poll' along with Bender from Futurama, and Kryten from Red Dwarf. I distinctly remember Twiki showing loads of attitude. Fighting (well, kicking people in the shins), trying to score with birds, disco dancing, being cheeky etc etc. Nah, Twiki should be nowhere near this poll... He was all right. And the Lost In Space robot was okay, pretty useful bit of kit really. So we're back to K-9 and Mickey........ Hmmm, decisions decisions. But before I make my decision I think this poll should have Twiki removed and adjusted to include 'Robot Redford' (yes, it was a play on words. ) instead.. Robot Redford was the ultra camp robot butler of Grotbags the witch, arch nemesis of Emu and Rod Hull (seen below in a lovely, pink, three piece suit ), that appeared in the 'Emu' TV shows from the early 80s, right throughout. Robot Redford was just awful! Redford is in the middle.

Robot Redford was rubbish but I don't think he was as annoying as Metal Mickey. K9 could be annoying but I don't feel embarrassed about liking him when I was a child whereas I'm embarrassed about ever liking Metal Mickey.

Has to be Metal Mickey - unfunny robot b*st*rd. K9 wasn't up to much either but Mickey is in a league of his own. Series Writer Colin Bostock-Smith is the perpetrator of numerous crimes against comedy but this is certainly the most heinous. The Federation security robot from Blake's 7 should replace Twiki. Can't believe they had the gall to feature this faintly camp motorised dustbin, not once but twice . Every bit as useless as it looks.

They are all pretty useless in my opinion. Twiki carried Doctor Theopolis around his neck all the time as if he was a knowledgable necklace - hopeless, but he could at least do stairs. The Lost In Space robot was annoying and K9 should have been put down after initial release. Without a doubt though, Metal Mickey for me and I just can't see him not winning this week's vote. Futher reading: www.shortlist.com/shortlists/seven-useless-on-screen-robotsI can't believe you were a fan of Grotbags Arch ... Carol Lee Scott lives just around the corner from my in-laws in Somerset.

It will be interesting to see if Metal Mickey gets 100% of the vote.

It will be interesting to see if Metal Mickey gets 100% of the vote. It'll be a travesty if he doesn't!

I do think she was an iconic children's TV villain though. Not quite up there with fellow witches 'Fenella the Kettle Witch' and 'Evil Edna' for me, but still very memorable..

One vote for K9 so Metal Mickey doesn't get 100% of the vote.

Okay, I finally voted. It was close but Metal Mickey earned my vote through having absolutely no redeeming qualities whatsoever... What a loser!!

I completely agree with the aforementioned post - unless of course you are anorak fan of Mickey Dolenz from The Monkees who produced it and feel the need for Monkees' completeness.

I don't know Twiki or Metal Mickey. I can't actually remember K9 doing anything useful but he was a dog so he gets points for that. I'm going to vote for Metal Mickey based on looks alone ! A poor example of a robot would have to be Marvin in 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'. He is so but that makes him such a different example of a serving robot. Brilliant book, ok film.

That stupid Lost in Space robot kept popping up in The Twilight Zone as it was obviously in the studio and they thought they'd use it!

Did you know Rod Hull and his family?

I am reliably informed by yoyopickles that Rod Hull used to live in Maidstone.

Yes I used to go around Rod Hull's house - it's my claim to fame! I went to - a small village - Primary School in Lynsted in Kent for a few years with his sons including Toby. Rod Hull was renovating the country house across the road from the school. He used to buy country houses and renovate them, then sell them. I used to pop round Rod's house; he had a row of pink suits with one fake arm in them! The house is now a home for disabled people.
