The actor probably best known for his role as Captain Yates in Doctor Who has died at the age of 87.
RIP.

Very sad to hear this. I've seen him at events since the 1980s and he kindly sent me (with help from a couple of good friends) a video message from his final Doctor Who event in 2021, wishing me well as I was waiting for a big operation and couldn't attend. Even then he knew that that event in Aldbourne would be his last (or very likely so) as he had a challenge of his own to face. Bless him. What a nice, gentle man. RIP.

The closest I came to seeing him was in 2002,when I went to see the woman in black on stage in the west end. He was an understudy.
Rip Mike Yates

Very sad news.
The UNIT Years, are one of my favourite periods of Doctor Who, I can remember meeting Richard Franklin, at a Doctor Who signing, at the time, he was with Katy Manning (Jo Grant), and like Alan, said above, Richard, was indeed a very nice man.
Day of the Daleks (which featured Richard, in the role of Captain Mike Yates), was my first ever Doctor Who Video.
Another sad loss, from the Classic Era of Doctor Who, R.I.P. Richard Franklin.

Written by Toby Hadoke, who always does a fine job in these circumstances.
