Tony, the last of the legendary iconic American crooners that of course included Sinatra, Crosby, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr etc. It can truly be said that an era has passed. A voice as soft as satin marked him out as special even in that exalted company. Found success of course with songs such I Left My Heart In San Fransisco, a song so mournful and full of longing that if it doesn't move you to tears, then you never had a heart in the first place to leave anywhere. A new generation found him later on with his duet albums. Always elegantly turned out, a gentleman by all accounts. RIP Tony

Yes, that era is sadly fading into history. Tony Bennett was one of the very last. 96 was a great age and even with dementia, he was on a tour up until 2022.

Music legend who always carried himself well and certainly, the true definition of that rare breed to be genuinely called "gentleman". He reportedly was a changed person after being horrified of what he saw serving in WWII. From that point on, he made a lifelong commitment to pacifism, social injustice, and music and the arts. It showed. One of the most gracious and well loved crooners to ever take the stage in the United States. RIP Tony.
