That sucks!
He was really good fun. It’s only in the last year or so I was appraising his Barry Mckenzie films. Some of his Dame Edna stuff wasn’t for me and his Les Paterson film and stand up stuff was a bit naff and crude at times but still amusing.
RIP Possum.

Watched his work as Barry McKenzie long after it was originally made but really enjoyed it, Dame Edna seemed to be a feature on ITV when I was younger didn’t appreciate it at the time but as an adult could see the genius of the character. RIP

I always enjoyed his appearances as the Australian Cultural Attache. RIP Barry (and Les and Edna).

RIP
Honourable mention of his name in The Beloved song Hello from the early 90s. That is where I heard of him first was not in the generation who knew of him prior to that.

One of an increasingly diminishing old guard of British comedy (I say that knowing full well he was Australian, of course!). Dame Edna I think I appreciated more in later years, but Barry Humprhies was part of that generation of comedians who came in on the crest of the Beyond the Fringe wave. The world was a better place with Barry in it. RIP, Barry. Good on ya, sport!

When I was a kid, I really thought Dame Edna was a woman! I remember my uncle Arthur taking me to Madame Tussauds and seeing a wax work of Dame Edna R.I.P

I saw him live once as Dame Edna at an event. Incredibly funny. So quick witted, a brilliant comedian and satirist.

I saw him live once as Dame Edna at an event. Incredibly funny. So quick witted, a brilliant comedian and satirist. I was reading an excerpt from a Dame Edna interview he did with a pre-Downing Street Boris Johnson and it was absolutely bang on - he had the bloke measured up to a T.
