A memorable TV sports presenter, complete with the 'Mallen Streak' (some people may even know what I'm talking about), a terrific anchorman on World of Sport, which I used to watch regularly in the 70s. RIP.

N.B. Some confusion between sources as to the date of his birth and age. Wiki says born 1933, age 89, Sky reckon born 1928, age 94.
The thread title may need changing if we can confirm the latter.

This is sad, who doesn't like Dickie Davies?!
I saw Dickie Davies filming Sportsmasters in Cardiff Culverhouse Cross Studios in what must have been 1990 (or 1991?). I was very excited going down there watching this as a youngster and seeing him and being part of the studio audience.
I don't remember much about it other than they had to stop it now and again to do a retake as I think either Dickie or the contestants messed up. My mind is playing tricks with me but I remember it was a very enjoyable day out.
Lovely bloke and a super presenter. RIP Dickie.
Not many people remember Sportsmasters - the theme tune is great. The studio I saw was this:

Date in thread title altered to 1928 in line with reports in the press which I'm more inclined to trust than Wikipedia...

I used to love watching the rally cross on Saturday afternoons on World of Sport in the 70s , with Dickie Davies. I was always pleased when he would say " It's time now to re join Murray Walker at Lydden Hill " R.I.P Dickie .

A great pro. Remember him doing the snooker after World of Sport finished in 1985.
There were such great presenters on BBC and ITV back in the day with Dickie and Brian Moore on ITV and Des Lynam and David Vine on BBC.
Dickie did a programme on World of Sport back in 2005 when ITV were marking 50 years. I remember finding it when I pulled out old video tapes a few years ago. That was the last time I saw him in anything.

Yes, the passing of Dickie Davies and John Motson in recent days is very sad. Along with e.g., Brian Moore, they brought an everymans appeal to sports presentation, after the rather pompous overtones of e.g., Kenneth Wolstenholme and David Coleman.

Can't believe it's nearly 40 years since World of Sport finished. On the Ball, international sports special 1 & 2, ITV seven, wrestling and then the full time scores. Great presenter. RIP Dickie.
