American rapper whose real name was Artis Leon Ivey Jr. and is best remembered for his single 'Gangsta's Paradise' that featured LV. It was released in the UK in October 1995 and reached number 1 he went on to have other hit singles including 'Too Hot' in 1996 and 'C U When U Get There' in 1997. Whenever I hear 'Gangsta's Paradise' it takes me back to the autumn/winter of 1995 listening to Atlantic 252. He was only 59. RIP

Gangsta's Paradise is a 90s anthem! With you Mr Wendell, like 'Return of the Mack', it takes me back to the mid-90s hitting the clubs with my Ray Daley shirt and tie on.
Shocked.
RIP

Yeah, RIP, sad day.
GP always was a great song, although it got watered down a bit by excessive use on TikTok.

Aware of him and his music, appears to have been a heart attack that killed him. Dunno how that came about but 59 is still no age.
I have no idea what he was like as an individual.
RIP Coolio.

Gangsta Paradise absolute tune! A story circulated around Scottish media is his unlikely friendship with politician Tommy Sheridan who he met whilst In the big brother house who persuaded him to become a Celtic FC supporter! RIP Coolio

'Gangsta's Paradise' was certainly one of the hits of its period, giving the Blur-Oasis axis a run for its money.
Sampling/remakes didn't always work, but this was an inventive re-working of a good Stevie Wonder song.
R.I.P. Coolio.

This was another classic 90's coolio song
He seemed to be quite a cool guy and down to earth unlike other rappers I mean he even did this with some students back in the early 2010's

RIP Coolio. An under-rated rapper, mostly due to the 90s rappers like Dr Dre and Snoop Dogg dominating the scene. I always like him doing the Kenen and Kel theme song, Aww here goes!
