Now confirmed by the BBC: www.BBC.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-61024415Very sad news. Mr Benn was a much loved programme in my childhood and we rewatched the full series last year and found it remains very enjoyable and well written. We recently purchased one of Robert's Mr Benn prints and, as if by magic, it's now hanging on our living room wall. Rest in peace, respect and thanks, Mr McKee.

Sad to read this. There is a recent episode of Endeavour with a scene in a taxi office where a cab gets called to pick up a Mr Benn in Festive Avenue (not Festive Road but clearly a nod to the great show).

Mr Benn is very good. A very entertaining and fun programme. Surprisingly few episodes. Haven’t seen King Rollo for years.
RIP Mr McKee, thanks for the shows.

Those cartoons are part of childhood for many as although not many episodes were made they were repeated for years many kids from the 70s through 80s would have seen them. RIP

Another reminder of part of my childhood memories, I can remember enjoying watching Mr Benn, when the series was repeated, I have got the series, on DVD, but haven't watched any episodes, for a long time.
R.I.P. David Mckee.

Not too long after the passing of the peerless Shirley Hughes too.
Such a shame, but what a legacy he has left behind for future generations to enjoy. My two boys were very fond of his Elmer the Patchwork Elephant books when they were little and we still have them on the shelves.
RIP
