Sad news was, he had a face and voice you noticed, he played great characters in both Brush Strokes and Vicar of Dibley. RIP

One of those faces that turned up in just about everything! Appeared in Minder as Alec Rowan, the corrupt accountant, in The Son Also Rises.

I was very sad to see this on the news this evening, an actor I remember seeing on television when I was very young in 'Brush Strokes'. He turned up in so many programs over the years and I was always pleased to see him do so, only last week I watched an episode of 'A Sharp Intake Of Breathe' where he played the main character (Peter Barnes) brother in-law. He deserves to be remembered for more than just David Horton from 'The Vicar Of Dibley'. His character of Lionel Bainbridge in 'Brush Strokes' was at least on paper a horrible one but you couldn't help liking Gary's portrayal of him, often feeling sorry for Lionel at times, and as many people have said over the years 'Brush Stokes' was never the same after he left. In an interview with Karl Howman I saw, he spoke of Gary with some affection, from what I've read Gary was one of those actors who was nice to everyone he worked with and was well liked. Another actor that has appeared in all of the 'big three' (Minder/Sweeney/Professionals). I especially liked the way his character (Alex Rowan) in Minder started off as the baddie but ends up working with Terry & Arthur and getting on with them well. I'm surprised he wasn't re-cast in a later Minder series as a different character. Not everyone in the UK would know his name but they'd recognise his face. A great actor. RIP

I thought he died in real life when he left Brush Strokes. Wasn't until the end of last year that someone else died who appeared in the Vicar of Dibley and I saw that Gary Waldhore was in that and knew he hadn't died. I have never watched Dibley.
RIP
