Australian writer, director, actor and businessman John Cornell died in the summer at the age of 80 after a long battle with Parkinson's. He is best-known for "discovering" Paul Hogan in the early 1970s and playing his idiotic sidekick 'Strop' in 'The Paul Hogan Show' which had short and sporadic runs on Channel 4 when I was a child, but more so for being one of the writers and producers of '"Crocodile" Dundee' and director of 'Croc 2'.
I didn't know that he had been the chief instigator of Kerry Packer World Series Cricket in the late 1970s or that he seemingly owned half of Byron Bay . He was married for more than 40 years to Aussie sex symbol Delvene Delaney who also starred on the "Hoges" show and in 'The Young Doctors'.
