I have just read the sad news , of the passing of our favourite Cornish comedian , Jethro , real name Geoffrey Rowe , to Covid 19 . He passed away yesterday aged 73 .
I remember first seeing him when I was on holiday with my parents in Cornwall , in the mid 70s . We were staying at Seaview Holiday Village , between Polperro & Looe & he was the evening entertainment . Everyone thought he was hilarious . This was of course before he appeared on tv . Apparently , he first appeared on The Des O Connor Show in 1990 . When we saw him , I can remember he was driving a blue MK2 Jaguar , 67VRL ( a good old Cornish registration !! )

My dad was a huge fan of Jethro many Christmas’s we would buy him a video than dvds, funny comedian who never got top level exposure on tv but sold many theatre shows over the years, I remember he regularly featured on the generation game with Jim Davidson I think would have been in the nineties but as far as I am aware never got his own shows on tv RIP

I did see him live in the early-90s - in that period his stage shows were similar to those (& sometimes using the same jokes) of Bernard Manning and Roy 'Chubby' Brown.

I have only just read this news!
I saw Jimmy Jones,on my own, at the theatre in November and he had me in hysterics! I was then talking to the now ex Mrs yoyo the next day,and she said she had seen Jethro live years ago, when she was a carer and took the man she looked after to see his show,as he was a fan.
She said she spent the entire evening shaking her head at his jokes and he kept on glaring at her! I never got to see him live, but saw a VHS tape of his years ago and remember seeing him on des o Connor back in the day.

Never saw him live myself but people that I know who have, say that he would pick a member or two of the audience and really give them a hard time. Also from what I've been told, his live shows were very 'blue' to the point of being quite offensive and personal to anyone he happened to pick on in the audience, not my cup of tea tbh.

I think many people who saw on teatime tv didn’t realise how blue his live shows were, but his comedy was honed in rough working man’s club and the like so it’s not surprising when you think about it, my mum liked some of his dvds but did find some stuff a bit to crude

I have heard his other shows were pretty near the mark, a bit like Jim Davidson.

Well said mate. Always a bit of an enigma - never seen anything in his one dimensional ‘comedy’… personally, I wouldnt have crossed the road to watch him, and would draw my curtains if he was in my garden.
