RIP.
I saw him in person once and got an autographed photo. The photo wasn't of him or Darth Vader, it was Jon Pertwee. Prowse was the photographer.

George Lucas offered him the roles of both Darth Vader and Chewbacca. Prowse chose Vader knowing that people tended to remember the villains in movies more than they do the heroes sidekicks. Prowse was also hired to get Christopher Reeve in to shape when he was cast as Superman.
Rest In Peace

A legendary figure to those of us of a certain age, which is probably everyone here! A poignant quote from the 'Green Cross Code Man' - "...I won't be there when you cross the road." . Sadly not. Thank you and farewell Mr. Prowse.

He was “Arthur” in Callan if I remember correctly He was, think his voice was dubbed in that as well. Reading the obits and other articles, he does seem to have been one of life's gentlemen.

Sad news.
Looking at him in 'Callan', he was a mountain of a man.
RIP.

His brother, Bob prowse ran a gym near me. It is now run by other managers, but still had the same name.
I actually had his signed photograph as Darth Vader, when I was about 7,as a friend of my mums, went to dinner with him for some reason.
In 1997 he was doing a signing session for the star wars special edition trilogy on VHS, and doctor who anorak I knew went to it. He said "you played a minatour on doctor who in 1972?" Dave said something like "yes, but i don't really like talking to doctor who fans!" the anorak was so annoyed, he took a picture of him, and said "i don't really want to take a pic of you, but had to finish up the last film on my camera"

I will forever have memories of the Green Cross Code man, they should have stuff like that now, I can't help not but think of him and the code everytime I cross a road. Very sad that he has passed away, a month or so back I watched a film called Elstree 1976 which was very interesting and had him in, I was after his autograph and had read he no longer signed stuff, I found his 2 part autobiography in the marketplace listings on Amazon and bought a 2nd hand copy, it arrived and had a flyer from a fan event from 2007 slipped inside and had been signed by him, so rather lucky for me. RIP Dave Prowse.
