Heard Steve Harris on the radio saying how Maiden were initially wary of approaching him because of his forbidding reputation, hence his nickname "The Headmaster". However, he went on to say he was actually a very nice man once the band got to know him. They certainly forged a fruitful creative relationship over the years.

In response to the reply above - yes they thought he was too big a name to produce their debut album, when in fact he would have jumped at the chance. Very sad to hear about his passing, but what a life in rock!
