Hollywood director passed away today aged 80
The director hit the big time after directing a string of successful movies including Flatliners (1990), The Lost Boys (1987), St. Elmo's Fire (1985) He famously took over the Batman franchise from director Tim Burton with the two box-office smashes Batman Forever (1995) and Batman & Robin (1997)

A very recognisable name on a lot of films and directed the excellent Falling Down.
RIP.

Yeah Falling Down was good. Though I haven’t seen it in years. 8mm was quite good but I haven’t seen that in years either.
Apart from that I’m not a huge fan of his stuff. Lost Boys, St Elmo’s Fire and Flatliners were popular though, as I seem to recall. The Batman films he did were questionable to say the least, in fact I think I turned off Batman and Robin, that was awful. So in all honesty, not really my kind of director, but hey each to their own.
RIP Joel.

Saw Flatliners when it came out and thought it was ok. Never been in a big rush to see it again. Tigerland and Phone Booth seem quite well regarded, but I've not seen those.

Being a Batman fan, I was familiar with his contributions to the franchise. Forever was OK, but Batman and Robin was awful. Just a elongated toy commercial. Between the two Batman films he made ‘A Time to Kill’ with Samuel L Jackson and Matthew McConaughey. A good court room drama from the pen of John Grisham.
