RIP. He was a very fluent player.
In the tournament on ITV4 last week Ronnie O'Sullivan was sporting, well a 'Ronnie' (Walrus tache) in support of Willie in the ICU in Spain.

Oh, dear. I only read yesterday that he was put into an induced coma. So terribly sad. RIP Willie.

Very sad news. He has been in a progressively bad way for a number of months, and has had well documented problems in his private life.
I prefer to remember the great WT of the 1980s; a number of old matches were uploaded to YouTube recently, during what would have been the World Championship fortnight, including his 1986 match with Stephen Hendry (Hendry's Crucible debut); it reminded me of just how good he was (Thorne) at his peak - fast, fluent around the table and with quite an eye for a long pot.
My thoughts are with his family and friends, and particularly his carer who has given so much of herself over the last few months.
RIP big man.

Yes, it was touch and go on the news early this morning.
As well as a great entertainer if not among the best of players we can also remember the fun of Snooker Loopy!

Yes I was sad to read the news this morning. A lot of the tributes say what a nice guy he was and that certainly came across in his commentary and punditry. And he was obviously not above pointing fun at himself allowing the lines "Now old Willie Thorne, his hair's all gawn and his mates all take the rise. His opponent said "cover up that head, the light's shining in my eyes" in 'Snooker Loopy'. He will be fondly remembered as part of the golden era for snooker.

Always came across as a nice chap who kept his dignity dispite all his problems.

Yes it would be hard to convey to anyone who wasn't around then just how big Snooker was back in the 80s. RIP

No disrespect meant; i'd like to think he would raise a chuckle if he read that comment.

Oh no.....just heard it. What a loss, he was one of the nicest guys in Snooker. Met him in person during the 1996 British Open in Plymouth....chatted with him, got his autograph on my cuecase and he even greeted us out of his S Class Merc on our way back. Big big loss, rest in peace, Willie. Oh, and I always felt a bit of a lookalike to him with my "hairdo", see my avatar. Guess this is one of his last pictures: www.belfastlive.co.uk/sport/other-sport/willie-thorne-death-snooker-legend-18436415.amp

This is very sad news. With all due respect, he was never really a top contender but always such a nice personality and both funny and interesting to listen. A lot of fun on 'Big Break' too.
RIP Willie

Sad to hear this. WT was a character and always seemed to be a happy go lucky sort despite what was going on in the background. I for one will always remember him with a smile on his face.
RIP.
