Sad news. A really good actor who I remember best from the Yes Minister series.
RIP Derek

Very sad news - as mentioned in the Dead Men Do Tell Tales thread, I met him only a few months ago and he seemed on fine form. He was very positive about his time on Minder.
RIP.

Very sad to read this, excellent in Minder and let's not forget his time with Basil Brush too.

He looked like he had a good time in your pic Felix. Reading on his wikipedia he was married to Lesley Judd of Blue Peter during the 70s.

My first memories of Derek Fowlds , were him presenting The Basil Brush Show , in the very early 70s I didn't watch Yes , Minister that much , but one of his best characters , was of course Oscar Blaketon in Heartbeat , both as police sergeant , & later pub landlord . I always used to like the way he pronounced " Greengrass " , when he was angry with him . RIP " Mr Derek " !!

I remember Derek Fowlds starring in "Yes Minister/Prime Minister", then as crusty old Sgt Blaketon in "Heartbeat".
A great actor
RIP, Derek

As a Londoner he certainly mastered the Yorkshire accent for 'Heartbeat'. Bill Owen was equally good in this respect.
R.I.P. Derek Fowlds.

...and let's not forget that Peter Sallis played northerners throughout his entire career (with only a few exceptions) and he was another Londoner too
RIP Derek
