Sorry to hear that... he was a real character. I suspect that many of us remember Lenny Henry impersonating him on TISWAS. Those were great days. Another link to the past gone.

A conservationist long before anyone gave it much thought, although he didn't believe in climate change.
RIP David

It's great to be able to say you have enthusiasm for your field of study/work. This guy certainly embodied that.

I believe he fell out of favour with the BBC but can't remember why. Always a knowledgeable and entertaining figure.
RIP.

I remember him with Magnus Pyke on a TV show in the 70s, (Don't Ask Me?) like Magnus, a wealth of knowledge and eccentric with it. Think he was a botanist before conservationist took over. Godspeed David, RIP

I liked his shows growing up. Particularly the one where he went small in the garden, like the incredible shrinking man and looked at plants and insects close up.
Dunno what it was called, can’t remember, but it was good that.
RIP.

It was a 1981 series called 'Bellamy's Backyard Safari'. I really remember that well.

He was the kind of person who was an expert in his field, but also charismatic and eccentric.
Others that spring to mind are Magnus Pike, Barbara Woodhouse, Brian Clough and Kenny Everett - you don't get their like on TV anymore.
R.I.P. David Bellamy.
