The popular English footballer and manager has sadly died aged 79. He is best known as the former manager of Derby County, Oxford United and Portsmouth.

I remember he went to Newcastle. 'The eagle has landed' said the new fangled electronic scoreboard.
Expectation was he'd awaken the sleeping giant who had been relegated to second division in 1989 after Gascoigne left.

Everyone knows Trevor Francis was the first £1m player who went from Birmingham to Clough at Forest.I His manager at Birmingham? Jim Smith. RIP Jim and Godspeed. Today, the world is a little darker.

Was Assistant Manager to Harry Redknapp at a few clubs as well and sure he was with him when they won the FA Cup with Portsmouth.
Respected throughout the game and had a great Derby team back in the 90s.

You never heard anything about these guys for years, and then it is staggering that both Ron Saunders and Jim Smith die at the same time.
A bit like when Ed Bishop and Michael Billington died within days of each other in 2005.
