Is this official as I've read elsewhere today it's a hoax.
I recall reading that Clive tried to undermine Johnny Rotten of The Sex Pistols in about 1976 on a regional TV show. Rotten wiped the floor with him. Rotten, despite his uncouth image has a very intellectual mind.....patronize him at your peril.

Yes, it's official. My abiding memory of him on TV was presenting those Japanese Game Shows. Can't say I was a fan, but at least he's free from pain.
RIP Clive

Was only after seeing his name mentioned in a Jonathan Miller obit. He was also big in the 80s/early 90s. Before Jools Holland his shows brought in the new year on the BBC.

Same age as my dad. Very good broadcaster. We've lost three big names today.
RIP.

Never a fan of his TV stuff but I liked his book Unreliable Memoirs. Could also be relied upon for a witty quote e.g the historian Dominic Sandbrook making a career of just repeating stuff his mum told him about the '70s.

I remember watching Clive James on TV in the 80s. Like Ace said it had that Japanese 'Endurance' game show on it.

I remember him from something shown on Sunday nights back in the 80s, possibly the same show mentioned above.
RIP Clive

He was never coarse or smug. I seem to remember him doing an annual New Year's Ever review.

A very intelligent and opinionated journalist whose Sunday night show I remember watching with my brother sometimes. He once I think described Arnold Schwarzenegger as resembling a condom packed with walnuts.

Not a big fan of f1 but his commentaries on some of the f1 official reviews from the 80s are really good with his wise cracks quite amusing in some parts

Is this official as I've read elsewhere today it's a hoax. Not quite, but when reporting the death of CJ, Sky mentioned a notable point of his career being when the Bee Gees stormed off his show. They had mixed up CJ with Clive Anderson! Somebody picked up on it and, for a while, Anderson's death was being reported... James, i think, would have loved the irony of the error. In its way, a fitting tribute.
