Extremely saddened to report that singer Scott Walker has died aged 76. An absolute legend in my eyes who was a huge influence on the likes of David Bowie and Marc Almond and one who always followed his own path.
RIP.

Very much of a music oddball in that, after the 1970s, he refused to tow the line and produce AOR/MOR records which would have sold by the shedload. He was a real maverick in recent years and earned a lot of respect for it. Personally I loved all his stuff with The Walker Brothers. His voice was truly mesmerizing. A very rare talent that kept it real.
RIP to a music legend.

Yes, you have to be committed to try listening to Bish Bosch or Tilt in one sitting but I always admired him for going his own way and making the albums he wanted rather than what the record company probably wanted.

Sad to hear this, as Felix says a true original who did his own thing on his own terms, something not many artists in the world of music do.
Have a few of his solo records and Walker Brothers stuff, but do enjoy his voice.
RIP Scott.

This is my favourite Scott track, The Old Man's Back Again (Dedicated to the Neo-Stalinist Regime) to give it its full title - check out the bass on it, said to have been played by the man himself:

The Walker Brothers were before my time and Scott’s solo work too obscure for me to have appreciated. However, No Regrets is one of my fav ever songs and as a result, I’d only recently checked out some YouTube interviews with him, even though he was somewhat reclusive. I’ll now try and check out some of his solo work... so rest in peace Scott...

Go for the early ones, Scott through to Scott 4 as well as ‘Til The Band Came In. After that there’s a change in direction and the albums become something of a challenge. Those first four are magnificent though.

According to one of Scott's obits, 'Climate of Hunter' (1984) was Virgin's worst selling album of all time.

I must admit I have never got around to buying his run of acclaimed albums (1967-70). Which surprises me, as when I hear tracks from them (e.g. nowadays on BBC 6Music) I usually like them.
R.I.P. Scott Walker.

Scott Walker. You really should - they’re fantastic. I’ve been listening to them a lot since he died and he really did have the most amazing voice, one of the greatest ever in my opinion. He could easily have been a Matt Monro or Andy Williams style crooner but the lyrics to his songs are incredibly dark at times which is why he was never mainstream. Of course, after those initial solo albums he went very off-piste and I wouldn’t play the likes of Tilt or The Drift In front of my Mum, something I wouldn’t hesitate to do with Scott 1-4.

'Scott Walker Sings Songs from His TV Series' is nigh on impossible to get hold of. Scott vetoed its release on CD. I presume, with his passing, it will now be released again.

I’d like to think so but it depends on what he stipulated before he died. Bowie hated the track Too Dizzy so much he had it deleted almost immediately from the track listing of Never Let Me Down and despite his death, it didn’t reappear on the remastered album last year so that must be something he insisted on.

A bit like Mike Smith (& subsequently his estate) denying the re-run of his TOTP editions.

There was a 'Now Playing' show dedicated to his music and artists influenced by his music last night on 6 Music. Have to say I found it very good.

Maybe that was what I heard briefly on 6 Music this morning as they were playing part of an interview with him and then a track from Sun O))) who he worked with latterly.

I have now managed to compile the album onto CD.
