If you go down to the Death Match today you'd better not go alone It's lovely down in the Death Match today but safer to stay at home For every* bear that ever there was will gather there together because Today's the day the teddy bears have their Death Match *not every!

For me, evoking childhood memories, would pick Baloo from The Jungle Book, however, as an adult, I'm picking the foul mouthed Ted who is a real player, and would be a great drinking mate!

Forgot the bear in The Shining noshing the guest! One of the best scenes in the film that. It's very disturbing. I liked that bit with the fit naked woman as well, who turns into a rotting corpse... Oh yeah, and the bar scenes obviously. There's loads of bears missing means we can get extra mileage out of this suggestion I could almost hear the cries of 'What! No Paddington?' as I typed it up. Perfect.

Ted?
I saw the first one.
It was amusing. I think I only saw some of the 2nd one on tele the other month.

I picked Yogi & Booboo. Smarter than your average bears.

Paddington beats them all - the original FilmFair one with Michael Horden of course, not the recent film one.
From that list though I’ll go for Bungle.

I dislike bungle intensely. He was a right gimp. George was bad enough but Bungle, jeez, what a tuss.
Zippy was a Dundee Utd fan iirc. I cannot remember how it came about now, I think it had something to do with Geoffrey. I remember reading it once.

Paddington beats them all Paddington wasn't available for this DM. He was ill again due to all the jam butties he keeps scoffing. He may be about another time? In other bear related news: I met Hercules the Bear once. It's head was flipping massive. At least it was when I was shorter. Hercules was an impressive beast. I bet if he got a monk on and pulled a sweaty he might be quite formidable. He seemed pretty chilled when I met him though.

Zippy was a Dundee United fan? What are you talking about? Have you been on those funny mushrooms again? Everyone knows he followed Stenhousemuir and was their club mascot for donkey's years. Fine, don't believe me? Look it up.

I've gone with Bungle for nostalgia reasons, but my all time favourite is 2000AD's "Shako" - a permanently cheesed off polar bear who accidentally swallowed a microfilm capsule which made him a target for the CIA and KGB. Cue several blood soaked pages every week as the angry ursine chewed his way through assorted US and Soviet spy goons plus numerous eskimoes, seals and the odd killer whale.

An attempt to put a contemporary spin on the gory dinosaur bothering antics of the earlier "Flesh".

This story came from Geoffrey Hayes, who was a Dundee United supporter. He said that Zippy was supposed to have been blue but he objected as they were the colours of rivals Dundee. Thing that Geoffrey forgets is that Zippy actually appeared in the first series, presented by David Cooke and the 'scary' Bungle, played by John Leeson. Not too sure what's going on in this picture... The Original scary Bungle, before he was replaced by 'Classic' Bungle (below)

I did love Superted as a kid, and my daughter now really likes watching it, so he gets my nod this time round. I forget Sooty was a bear.

I liked Sooty also as a kid and have a big soft toy of him sitting on my bedside cabinet. I've never seen the non Matthew Corbett version of the show though.

Sooty got my vote, he has the coolest mates. New Sooty is superb, they have guests on there, like most of us: has-beens and dead-beats from yesteryear. Almost all of 'em get the **** ripped out of 'em. Matthew Corbett even shows up in one show ... 'don't I know you?'
