Sad to hear that, a very fine actor. Did some great work in Trevor Preston's "Out" and "Fox". His character Ray in the latter could have sustained a series on his own I think.

Couldn't agree more ltd, i'd loved to have seen a series based around his character in 'Fox' as the shifty nightclub owner, that would have been a real gem imo. Sad news, RIP.

Ray was quite a complex character, shifty and criminal, yes, and with a messy private life, but he had his own sense of honour. I think Derrick O'Connor's performance was the ideal match for Preston's writing - really brought home the vulnerability of the character underneath the hard nut image e.g. when he bursts into tears after he's been arrested. You sympathised with him even if you didn't always like him. Should have got a BAFTA.

His appearances in Terry Gilliam's films were quite noteworthy for his insistence in trimming his dialogue - how many actors can you think of agreeing to doing that, never mind suggesting it in the first place? His deranged grunting and gurning in Time Bandits was a highlight of this particular approach.

He also played a heavy in The Fourth Floor from 1986 by Ian Kennedy Martin (I've only read the book and asked Network if they had any plans on releasing it but they said they didn't have the rights). He was also the South African henchman who murdered Riggs' wife in Lethal Weapon 2 - that was a pretty shocking revelation at the time.

Fair play to him for moving to the US where his talents would be better rewarded, but I think his Lethal Weapon character was a pantomime villain compared to the menace he brought to John Pavey in "Out".

R.I.P. Derrick O'Connor. My memory is always of him on the pub roof in The Sweeney 'Night Out'.

RIP Derrick O'Connor.
Never saw Derrick ever put on an average performance, he was a really, really good actor. Agree with everything said here. Worth catching (if you ever can) a play for Today he did called "Keep an Eye on Albert" written by Brian Glover and staring David Daker and Susan Tracy - great comic timing in that ep from him.
FOX's strength is Derrick O'Connor - the series comes alive anytime he's on the screen - and he does pretty much everything in that series - tough, vulnerable, heavy, sad, funny, scary...
