Now THIS, is very interesting... www.leicestermercury.co.uk/news/leicester-news/named-after-wine-gums-fortune-1403499I'll admit that 90% of this, maybe 99%, was totally unknown to me! I knew him as Selwyn Froggit in the mid 1970s (haven't seen it since, but I remember it being very funny at the time) and I've never seen anything else he's been in, apart from the Alf Garnett film. And that episode of The Sweeney of course! Obviously a very talented guy.

I always enjoyed his on screen appearances , he was great in comedic roles as a shifty character in several Carry Ons and also the film of Man About the House. When I was a kid I used to have a "Selwyn Froggit is magic" badge (until someone pinched it at school lol)
RIP Greengrass

I met him briefly, in Eastbourne, circa 1987. He was at the stage door by the theatre and I (maybe jno too?) was with our mam sat in a car across the street. I went over and said Hello. He seemed very nice.

Very sad news. An Actor who I have always liked, apart from Heartbeat and Oh No, It's Selwyn Froggitt, I remember Bill Maynard in many other films and TV series. Just some of the films and TV series (in which Bill Maynard, appeared), that I have seen - The Sweeney (Supersnout), Tales of the Unexpected (A Picture of a Place), which was one of my favourite Tales of the Unexpected episodes, Worzel Gummidge (3 episodes), The Gaffer, Minder (The Second Time Around), several Carry On Films and the film versions of three TV Sitcoms - Till Death Us Do Part (1969), Bless This House (1972) and Man About the House (1974). I have got all of the above titles (apart from Heartbeat), on DVD. R.I.P. Bill Maynard. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5562215/Heartbeat-actor-Bill-Maynard-played-Greengrass-TV-drama-dies-aged-89.html

Another sad loss from the world of entertainment He was a great comedy actor & I thought he was hilarious as bumbling buffoon Selwyn Froggit , in the late 70s He is also greatly remembered for his character , Greengrass , in Sunday night favourite Heartbeat . The show never seemed quite the same after he had left . I can always remember seeing him , stood next to that nice early red MK1 Capri , as Sid James neighbour in Carry on at Your Convenience - RIP
