And as we know in these parts, sometimes very low However this weeks Death Match considers card games. Traditional card games (So not stuff like Magic or Top Trumps or Tarot). So which are your favourite and why? As suggested by: Maurice Michaelson. Pick any 3 games from the dealer.. Please note: there are literally hundreds of card games out there with even more hundreds of variations and regional nuances, but bear in mind you can only pick the 'other' option once... so to help you decide feel free to follow this A-Z (if necessary) which includes the rules to many games and explains their variants: A-Z of card games and rules

Didn't think anyone knew s**thead. Played it MANY times on NAAFI break. Didn't have a clue about the rules, they seemed to change as you played. Won cigarettes even though I don't smoke. Ciggies seemed to be the acceptable currency playing with squaddies. Best part was at the end of the session, whoever lost the most had to make a brew, and squaddies being hellbent on pain, had to take one for the team. The cards were shuffled, loser said a suit, i.e. clubs. The cards were then dealt until a club turned up. It could be the first or second card, and usually the tenth or so. The cards were then made into a pack, and they were rapped across the poor buggers knuckles the amount of times it took till his selected suit appeared. I had it a few times myself, looked like you'd punched a wall such was the swelling and bruising.

Never played it with raps at the end though. Did used to play raps though, the cards we used at school were caked in blood. Most unsavoury and no doubt a breeding ground for infection. Funny though watching people squeal when rapped. Not so funny when it inevitably became your turn.

I recall a rule when getting rapped, IF the punisher, in his zeal, DROPPED the cards, he'd get one for every card he dropped, INCLUDING the jokers. Never saw it, but you WERE aware of that one!

Euchre, Go Johnny Go (good song though), Piquet (never as good as his dad), Crazy Eights, S***head And War. Oh good gawd Felix, don't let MIAS hear you say that....! Euchre is a Cornish game, I've not played it but I think it's like Cribbage. When Cornish miners went across the globe like missionaries, spreading the word of the pasty they also took euchre with them. I've asked MIAS countless times to teach me but he either doesn't know the rules himself (most likely), or he wont because he's bound by his Celtique Fantasy Code (which is a bit like the magic circle for not wanting to teach non-believers, but is more racist and makes less sense). Piquet is French, I've not played that either. Crazy Eights is like Black Jack, you know Black Jacks = pick up five, 2s = pick up two, 8s = miss a go. All that jazz. A more commercial derivative is Uno. Sh*thead is a great game (too complicated to mention here).. You are sort of in a race against the other players to clear all your cards by playing power cards. If you cannot play you have to pick up. The loser is The Sh*thead. Apart from it's rather vulgar title it's really fun. War is a bit like top trumps but with playing cards. And finally Go Johnny Go Go Go Go............... well, the rules to that are here below................

I’ve obviously lived a very sheltered life I must crawl out from under my stone more often, as only heard of snap and brag.

I’ve obviously lived a very sheltered life I must crawl out from under my stone more often, as only heard of snap and brag. One day I'll come up to Aberdeen and teach you how to play Sh*thead, Daz. In return you can take me to Pittodrie and show me how your team play football.

Have chosen 'Brag' but only know the 'Crash' variant ... en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crash_(card_game)Like felix, have led a sheltered life but voted Brag, Cribbage and 'Cheat' - the latter a very funny card game. In Austria, the locals love 'Schnapsen'.

Cribbage (and of course Snap!) work ok with two players. The 'cheat' version I play is the same as you Lee, one card either side and it is a right laugh - superb fun!

In a nutshell :
Skat (German pronunciation: [ˈskaːt]) is a 3-player trick-taking card game of the Ace-Ten family, devised around 1810 in Altenburg in the Duchy of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. It is the national game of Germany[1] and, along with Doppelkopf, it is the most popular card game in Germany and Silesia and one of the most popular in the rest of Poland. It is considered one of the best and most interesting card games for 3 players[1][2] and has been described as "the king of German card games."[3]
