He was certainly a lot of fun in the role.

Didn't like the tv show, BUT Higgins WAS worth watching. For years, I was convinced he was British. Great character. Didn't realise he was the bootmaker in my favourite Clint Eastwood film, High Plains Drifter. RIP

Sad news.
I can remember enjoying watching many episodes of Magnum, P.I., in the 1980's.
R.I.P. John Hillerman.

His English accent was so convincing I thought he was English. It was only years later I found out he was a Texan.
RIP John

A very prolific actor on US TV for over 2 decades. RIP In the 1970s he had recurring roles on Ellery Queen and the sitcom One Day At A Time. A good character actor but I could never accept the idea of him as Watson so I never say the Sherlock Holmes things he did.

Brilliant actor. He and Tom Selleck were a great double act the same way as Waterman and Cole in Minder. I too thought he was English until I found out he was American. When watching Alias last year, I was surprised to find that the actor David Anders is also American as he too played an Englishman convincingly.
