Just saw this news. A superb Italian exploitation director. Lenzi was one of the best. He made some belters in his time. His probably greatest success for me coming by way of his brilliant poliziotesschi output. With the exception of possibly Di Leo, he owned that genre. His most infamous work probably coming by way of something like (the video nasty) Cannibal Ferox. Kick starting the rather dubious sub-genre with (another video nasty) The Man From Deep River, in 1972. His period between 1965-1980 was his best in which he directed over half his 65 films in a 15 year period. Well Umberto, you're not exactly what I'd call a visionary director but boy have you kept me entertained over the years. Thanks for the movies. RIP.

I have seen some of his pre-1970s movies but none of the ones he built his reputation on. Prolific director in a variety of genres.

They're brilliant. I'm not so hot on his cannibal films but Eaten Alive is a great little movie. He just made some really good exploitation, with often zero conscience.

A genre that has passed me by. I don't think I will bother getting into it now That said, Mr Lenzi seems to have been prolific and knew his trade.

Indeed, they knock the socks off most of the garbage that's made these days. At least he had some balls and tried to make exciting pictures, unlike most of the sanitised, cookie cutter rubbish we get nowadays.
