Good character actor. I shall always remember him for his performances in 'Space 1999'. Great age to reach though.
RIP.

To me he will always be father from beauty and the beast.
Bloke I know reckoned he was one of his Tennant's (he is a landlord) but never got me his autograph!

As MIAS mentioned he was in two great episodes of Space1999 "Breakaway" and "Earthbound" where his portrayal of the ambitious politician Commissioner Simmonds was scheming malevolence personified - I shall watch both episodes today in his honour. RIP Sir

RIP Sir Yes, he is absolutely brilliant as Simmonds in those two stand out episodes.

Another fine example of the between the wars generation that produced so many very good character actors and actresses. He was great in both his appearances on SPACE:1999. I always notice him as a Russian General in the film Nicholas And Alexandra. Rest In Peace.

Of course, he was Edward Woodward's father-in-law for 22 years. Roy was only 7 years older than Edward!

As a kid I loved his reading of Watership Down on 8+ cassettes from the town library. I've got it on MP3 now. As an adult I can see the editing/abridgement is a bit shaky in places but Mr Dotrice's vocal characterisations carry it through. High time I listened to it again.
