Also in 'Quadrophenia', he was busy in 1977/78! Good character actor.

My favourite Haskins substitute without doubt. Benjamin Whitrow did a fine job making him a character in his own right and not just a stand in - he was more of a bureaucrat than Frank (who did sometimes get out of the office to mix it up with the crims) but not unsympathetic. Always felt a bit sorry for Braithwaite having to deal with Jack and Co's crazy antics e.g. the container lorry foul up in Drag Act.
RIP Mr Whitrow.

R.I.P. Benjamin Whitrow. A small but subtle part of 'The Sweeney' recurring cast.

Sad to hear this, he was also excellent in 'Chancer' with Clive Owen & Susannah Harker.

A fine and very distinctive actor. Also did a lot of comedy, most recently was in Toast of London.

Quadrophenia (1979)
Mr. Fulford: Mr Cale tells me that you spent the weekend in Brighton, I imagine you were involved some extent in the disturbances there?
Jimmy: Yeah I was there
Mr. Fulford: Weren't arrested or taken or anything like that were you?
Jimmy: No.
Mr. Fulford: I must say I find your attitude incomprehensible. I feel I must warn you Cooper that we can't tolerate this kind of absenteeism amongst our junior staff. You got a good steady job here Cooper, plenty of young men would give their eye-teeth to be in your shoes.
Jimmy: Oh yeah! Well find one then
Mr. Fulford: I beg your pardon?
Jimmy: You 'erd I said find one then. Yeah I'll tell you what you can do with your eye-teeth and your job, you can take the mail and the franking machine and all that other rubbish I have to go about with and you can stuff them right up your @rse!
His finest scene.

I actually didn’t realised he had died virtually a year ago! I was reading about Sweeney on line & wiki earlier, and noted he passed away last September. I seen him, in St Ives - obviously holidaying some years ago, I’m guessing about 2006 or 2007, it was in the off season & I nearly ran him over, as he stepped off the pavement on one of the many narrow streets. Luckily I was driving slowly. I clocked him & mentioned it to my (ex) wife, she didn’t make much of it but I’m sure he registered that I’d clocked him! Di you remember me telling you the story - Barry The Book?

Di you remember me telling you the story - Barry The Book? I do remember. It's a pity you didn't get to talk to him. I know it takes a bit of nerve to approach someone in the street and make conversation but I often think actors would be quite chuffed to hear how they're remembered for a particular roll from a fan.
