Surely everyone on the forum has fond memories of watching these cartoons when we were young. . . and maybe even when we weren't so young ? Enjoying every minute of the anarchic, satirical, violent and often somewhat politically incorrect fun. Those were the days, eh? Back when cartoons were actually funny. So this weeks Death Match asks the question: 'Which is your favourite Looney Tunes characters?' (and why). Now go pick 3 sticks of dynamite from your local Acme Corporation Stores and create some mayhem. Only one thing's for sure, this ain't gonna be pretty, so let's see who comes out on top!

I always found Road Runner a bit too smug for liking and always wanted him to get his comeuppance from the old Coyote, but I suppose that woyld have ended the show.
Always used to love it when they put on one of these cartoons unexpectedly on Sunday afternoons back in the day, when 24 hour cartoon channels was the stuff of dreams....

Agree with daz, Coyote was better than Roadrunner. He gets my vote along with Speedy Gonzales and Foghorn Loghorn.

Glad my suggestion made it. Some I didn't like, Speedy Gonzales, Tweety Pie and Porky Pig. Others couldn't go anywhere like Elmer Fudd or Pepe Le Pew. Their stories were often the same scenarios. My all time favourite is Foghorn Leghorn. Just brilliant in every way, especially thrashing the neighbours dogs @rse with a plank of wood. Loved his accent and southern hospitality as well. I believe Fred Elliot on Coronation Street based his character on Foghorn, I say, Foghorn.
Daffy is timeless, nothing to add. Makes Disney's Donald look a right mug!
Yosemite Sam I like as I was told that's how I used to be in the kitchen years ago. I'm calm now.
Kudos to the legendary Mel Blanc. Best voice characterisation in the business..

I think everybody wanted Wile E. Coyote to get Road Runner. They were great cartoons and I don't think they were initially aimed at children. If you look through early 1970's ITV listings, you can sometimes see them as a filler in the evening. Foghorn Leghorn was great and Fred Elliott was a great nod to the character.

I voted for Bugs Bunny, will have a good think, before I select another two, I very much used to enjoy watching cartoons.
I am quite good at drawing, and have done drawings of quite a few of the cartoon characters, mentioned on this Thread.

When I was growing up in America the Looney Tunes cartoons were a fixture on tv. Weekdays before and after school, on Saturday mornings and you might even catch one on a Sunday when they would be used to round out a time slot when a movie or sports event ended early. Great stuff no matter when you watched them.
The cartoons were originally released theatrically and intended for a mass audience so some jokes are aimed at adults. Some of the ones made during WW II have references to tithings like rationing.

And because of this there are of course the notorious 'Censored Eleven'.. Which these days are never shown due to certain themes and jokes. Largely banned due to racist content featuring ethnic stereotyping or moments which are considered completely inappropriate these days. Actions like drinking, smoking and suicide.

My favourite was Elmer Fudd.
Such an unassuming chap but obsessed with getting that 'dirty ole wabbit.'

Thanks Arch. I couldn't remember the title of the Bugs Bunny cartoon. I saw it back in the '80s and even allowing for when it was made it is quite outrageous.
There is also a brief black and white segment with Porky Pig that is censored for language and if I remember correctly was made strictly for the amusement of the people working on the cartoons and then it was shown to others working at Warner Brothers. As I said its very short and involves Porky hitting his thumb with a hammer and trying to get out a reply.
It's on YouTube under the title Porky Pig Hits His Thumb. Sorry I don't know how to link to it.

Hardly a swear word. Still, must have caused shockwaves at the studio at the time

Thanks ace5150 for posting it. What Porky says is hardly shocking now but it never would have been allowed in a mainstream American movie in 1939.

Daffy, Sylvester, and Wile E Coyote for me. BTW, Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing were Looney Tunes fans further illustrating how they were men of exceptional class and taste.

I've read how the two gentlemen use to crack each other up by doing spot on imitations of the Looney Tunes characters. I'd love to see video or film of it if there is any.

That clip is great and shows the depth and affection of their friendship. It also reminded of the place I worked at in the late 1980s. Our part of the building had a stuffed Wile E. Coyote as our mascot.
