Just read the sad news that the original saxophone player in The Beat has died aged 87. He was approaching 50 when they first charted with 'Tears of a Clown' in 1979. His real name? Lionel Martin. 87 is a good age to reach.
RIP

Sad news, but 87 is a good old age.
I doubt we will ever see another period where guys like this obtain a degree of success late on in their life with younger bands.
RIP

I remember them in the music press in 1980, and thought he was one of the band members dad! That said, he always looked comfortable playing with his younger bandmates live. RIP Saxa, thanks for the music

RIP Strummer insisted on taking Bo Diddley on tour when The Clash first toured the U.S., Bo found a new wave of fans as a result, when his success had waned over the years. Fantastic artist.

It was more about the music back then and how well you could play rather than what you looked like and if you fitted a certain profile. RIP Saxa.
