This death match may require a bit a patience as many of these tunes you might never have heard of, because they were rejects or just pretty obscure. These are tracks that were either intended to be used as James Bond themes or related films, theme contenders or songs with a strong Bond connections - either way they were not used as the main Bond theme for whatever reason. This is up to 2008 only - no 'Skyfall' and beyond included here. Therefore I would encourage all voters to have a good listen to the tracks before voting - you can PICK 5 you like the most. This list is by no means complete (but certainly ones I have come across on my little bit research on this subject). PICK 5! 1964: Anthony Newley - Goldfinger 1965: Johnny Cash - Thunderball 1965: Dionne Warwick - Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (Thunderball) 1965: Shirley Bassey - Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (Thunderball) 1967: The Beach Boys: Pet Sounds (You Only Live Twice) 1967: Lorraine Chandler - You Only Live Twice 1967: Julie Rogers - You Only Live Twice 1967: Ennio Morricone feat. Christy - Man For Me (from 'Operation Kid Brother' starring Neil Connery) 1974: Alice Cooper - The Man With The Golden Gun 1981: Blondie - For Your Eyes Only 1983: Phyllis Hyman - Never Say Never Again 1987: a-ha - The Living Daylights (album version, no John Barry involvement) 1987: Pet Shop Boys - This Must Be The Place I Waited Years To Leave (The Living Daylights) (Demo only) 1995: Ace of Base - The Juvenile (Goldeneye) 1995: Bono - Goldeneye (Demo only) 1997: The Fixx - Fatal Shore (Tomorrow Never Dies) 1997: Pulp - Tomorrow Never Dies 1997: Chris Rea - Shadows of the Big Man (Tomorrow Never Dies) 1997: Swan Lee - Tomorrow Never Dies 1997: Saint Etienne - Tomorrow Never Dies 2002: Red Flag - Beyond The Ice (Die Another Day) 2006: Sandra - Sleep with Me Tonight (Casino Royale) 2008: Eva Almér - Forever (I am All Yours) (Quantum of Solace) 2008: Shirley Bassey - No Good About Goodbyes (Quantum of Solace) 2008: Amy Winehouse - Quantum of Solace 2008: Huck Whitney - Quantum of Solace

So far I have got up to and just finished Chris Rea's.. At that point I've lost the will to live...
My thoughts so far are, pretty much they are all rubbish. But that's hardly surprising because they are after all Bond Opening Credits Songs, and as a result of that they were bound to be garbage and are in good company alongside the dreck that actually made it.
My phone wouldn't let me listen to Alice Cooper or Bono, and I couldn't be bothered powering up any other device as I wouldn't have voted for Bono anyway. Mostly coz he's a git.
I'm not quite sure what The Man In Black was thinking.. That was utterly mental! It almost got my vote just for being so anti-bond!
So far my favourites have been:
Lorraine Chandler - Good Bond track, shame her voice stinks..
Phyllis Hyman - Decent effort. Better than the one they used for the movie. Well done Phyllis you're pick of the pops love.
Ennio Morricone - Starts badly but improves as it goes on. Not one of Ennio's best tracks, see also the opening score he did for Danger:Diabolick, that has much groovier Bond credentials.
The Pet Shop Boys - Doesn't go anywhere and has the PSB signature all over it - which is a bad sign, but with a lot of work this may have been passable..... Just.
Pulp - I wasn't sure if this was a p***-take or not. Cocker's voice is too wishy washy but the actual song pacing is quite good and it was okay in the fact I kept smirking at it.
I haven't made my final judgement yet so no votes but those are my thoughts so far..

Interesting list. It shows the en vogue artists of the particular time.

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Best_of_Bond...James_BondI seem to recall listening to this album in 1993-94 while at SDUC Lampeter. In fact, many a Bushmills whiskey was polished off to discussion of each track with my mate Gavin Hughes. Mr Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was featured on this album. Just saying. It may not have been an official theme tune, but it was deemed official enough to be put on this album. So I chose both versions of this song. Shirley Bassey. She's Welsh, she's brilliant and you can't have Bond without Bassey. Alice Cooper's track is superb and is way better than Lulu. Never Say Never Again isn't official, but it's unofficial enough to have been included in my late night discussion with Gavin. My final choice was Blondie, which I seem to recall, was going to be the theme tune to For Your Eyes Only but then they chose Sheena Easton instead. Sheena Easton?! She lasted (like) five minutes and Blondie are part of music history. Shocking. I didn't pick any recent alternative theme tunes. It's due in part to some guy telling me once that 'No good music had been made in Britain since The Jam split up in 1982.' There is some truth in this statement.

Has to be dame Shirley, mr kiss kiss for me. Used in the film anyways, suits the bond films of the time. I also really liked the blondie one too, but Sheena is admittedly better

I'm not quite sure what The Man In Black was thinking.. That was utterly mental! It almost got my vote just for being so anti-bond! Don't care if it is mental, I enjoyed Cash's version, but then I just really like Johnny Cash. I also chose Blondie's "For Your Eyes Only" and Pulp's "Tomorrow Never Dies." Save

This would have made a fantastic Bond theme. They could have used it for Skyfall.

Nice to see a-ha's original 'Living Daylights' getting plenty of votes on here - seems a-ha and John Barry didn't get along too well if we believe what we read on the internet with a-ha wanting this one. Duran Duran reportedly had similar issues with Barry.

Never read about any clashes with JB and Duran Duran but yes apparently one of the reasons JB never did another Bond film was because of his stressful experience working with A-HA.
To me the John Barry soundtrack WAS part of the Bond experience and it lost something when he left (hon. mentions to George Martin on 'Live And Let Die' and Marvin Hamlisch on The Spy Who Loved Me')

[in no particular order] Chandler. Hyman. Winehouse - I liked the song, her voice is faultless. Sadly let down by the fact I had no idea what she was warbling on about. Plus having no chorus or song direction meant it was all over the place and you wouldn't be able to sing-a-long to this whilst drinking vodka martinis at the wheel of your Aston Martin. Shame. TPSB. Pulp. I relegated Morricone on the grounds that he has done loads of other stuff that would have been better suited to Bond. I stand by my opinion that 95% of all Bond opening credits songs are rubbish! And that if they weren't attached to the films you wouldn't give them house room in your music collection. FACT.

Well done for making the effort to make an informed opinion. Seems I am the only one voting for Eva Almér - Forever (I am All Yours).
