Thought I'd just check the news before bed and was shocked to see this! 53 years old, man this year has been horrific with the reaper!
RIP George Michael

2016 ... the sooner this is over the better. Whether you love 'em or hate 'em no one can deny Wham! were probably as big as you could get in the 80s. At the time I didn't like them much, and thought that George Michael was the definition of poser I must confess. That said, I could never deny Michael wrote a stack of catchy pop numbers and throughout the 80s I grew to respect his ability to write a catchy tune or 10. As soon as Wham! was over, he started to go very weird and his other major news back in the day came as no real surprise.
Nevertheless, an 80s mega star has left us and as a genuine songwriter and 80s hitmaker he was superb. RIP George.

This is indeed a shock.
'Freedom' was my favourite Wham! single. 'I'm Your Man' was good as well (given the particular part of the 80s it was from).
IIRC the only album I bought of his (or Wham!) was 'Listen Without Prejudice Vol 1' (1990) which I played again recently. It adopted some of the music trends of the time, but is not readily associated with 'baggy' etc.
RIP George Michael.

Shocked to read this. A year younger than me. Never a fan, 'Careless Whisper' I really rated however.
RIP.

I quite liked a lot of Wham singles and Faith was a good album, but he was such a huge part of the music world when I was growing up it was hard not to know who he or his music was.
He seemed to fight a few demons in his life, I just wish he had the courage to live his life the way he wanted instead of keeping everything secret, but I suppose it was the times we lived in.
53 is no age at all and after watching him on TOTP just last Friday and to think that the young lad who broke many young girls hearts is no longer with us.
As said previously 2016 can go to hell, a horrible year.
RIP Georgios

I'm sure lots of us guys (and ladies?) grew designer stubble, hoping to look like George. I thought I'd achieved it on my first go, as my mum said "you look like George... Best!!" Don't think she meant early 70s Best either.
I found most of George's solo stuff a bit pretentious to be honest. I liked when he appeared on Parkinson, he was polite and never wanted to overshadow and interrupt other guests, like the likes of Gervais, Kay, etc do, which winds me up.

Not of fan of his but he was a big star in the 80s and I'm shocked he died at such a young age.
RIP George

Don't think she meant early 70s Best either. Even if I was able to grow designer stubble I would still look more like George Formby than George Michael

The second of my all time favourite voices lost this year. First Bowie, now George Michael. I had the pleasure to see and hear him in concert. Great performance. Always loved his wonderful clear voice and many of his songs. Including Wham! He played a big part in the music of my life. Too many this year, too many.
