Mondays are great if it's the first day of a week off work. I like Sundays, roast dinner, football etc. Here in Austria and in Spain where I used to live, bank/national holidays often occur on Tuesdays or Thursdays and they will usually take an extra day - in German "ein Fenstertag" (a window day) or in Spanish "puente" (a bridge day) - thus 1 day orf means 2 days orf or very long weekend (adding a Friday or Monday into the story). I don't ever recall having this extra skiving facility in blighty though.

@jno Fenstertag is not German....if so it must be austrian, nobody uses the word here. In Germany, at least in the western parts where I live, it's "Brückentag" - "bridge-day". When a holiday falls on a Tuesday it's weekend, then Monday's the "Brückentag" and then Tuesday is the actual holiday. Gives you the opportunity to have 4 days off with only using off 1 day of your work holidays.
4 of those this year, altho I only get 2 of them.

Apologies Terry, I should have said Austrian German (a fine oxymoron).

I'll step aside from this one. Each day is what you make it.... I know you're right but the days that you don't have to work are . If it has to be one favourite day as far back as I can remember, it's Saturday. Saturday night when you were young always held the greatest promise of all, maybe the best fun night ever, maybe meet the love of your life, no school, no work, free time. Now I like it because I can sleep in on a Saturday morning. Lol

I work EVERY day, that's my choice, so don't have a particular favourite day, BUT payday IS always one to look forward to.

Yes, like Ace, I am required to work on every day of the week - I have two days off but they are normally mid-week.
The service industries do not have a 'week-end' as such.

For me it used to be Wednesday. And somehow still is.
Wednesday being the middle of the week meant that it was half over, so less days to work until weekend. And the second half always passes quicker. Now I have no regular working days, I work on weekends and holidays, if required. But Wednesday is my offical day off, so I can work, but I don't have to. Makes it special. Sundays I like least, but the explanation exceeds my English language skills.

Na dann sogs auf Deutsch un kaunma ubersetzna. THIS German may be harder to understand than my English. (Honestly, it's not much easier to find the proper words in German. But you asked for it, jno, ... and stupid me forgot that you understand German.) So Sunday is spoilt because of the next day being Monday. Because on Monday I don't care anymore.

As I understand this .... 1. Besides the fact Monday is the first of the day of the week, this is also the day on which someone most likely wants something from you aka will agg you (which you never look forward to ) and is any case way too soon in your opinion? 2. You don't have any excuses to put off the stuff you have to do at the weekend as these (do or do not?) require interaction with regular working people. Eeek, that was hard and although I understand the words I still have no idea what you mean.

That's like the manuals translated from Japanese to English to Danish to German. By a computer. jno, I know what I meant but I don't think it's what you wrote. I could give it a try to do better, but I really doubt it's worth the effort. Anyway, funny this conversation is. So a major goal achieved in my opinion. Reminds me of one of my favourite quotes: I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I’m not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.(Robert McCloskey)

Friday all the way! When I get home on a Friday night I just want to lock myself away in a darkened room and forget all about work and the people I work with and enjoy the fact I have two whole days of not having to go to work.
When I worked in the bakery we too were subjected to working weekends, which I detested and Tuesday would have been my favourite day, as usually off on Wednesdays/Thursdays.

Friday in the Arab world is a lovely day. It's obviously mosque day, but even if you don't go to the mosque, it's lovely to see families out enjoying the sunshine and having barbecues near the beach or in public places.
Before about 2008, the weekend used to be Thursday/Friday when I lived in Kuwait. This was like Saturday/Sunday in the west. But then the Kuwaiti government changed the weekend to Friday/Saturday. Most Arab countries have done this now. This was great for watching the Premier League on Saturdays as we were now no longer in work. We couldn't stay up on Wednesday night anymore though for Champions League matches.
But it was weird too. Can you imagine having a weekend where Sunday is the first day and Saturday is the second? That's how it felt. You felt that you never really wound down at the end of the week anymore in preparation for the working week ahead. I was one of many who missed the old weekends.
