Several Austrians have stormed the UK charts over the years, clearly loved enough by the British public to go out and buy each of the following 8 songs - including 2 number 1s!
However, on reflection some (if not all) of them are COMPLETE STINKERS - but which is the WORST?
Pick your worst 3!
Conchita Wurst - Rise Like A Phoenix Number 17 - May 2014
DJ Ötzi - Hey Baby (Uuh, Aah) Number 1 - August 2001
DJ Ötzi - Doo Wah Diddy Number 9 - December 2001
DJ Ötzi - Hey Baby (World Cup Remix) Re-released for the England Team Number 10 - June 2002
Edelweiss - Bring Me Edelweiss Number 5 - April 1989
Falco - Rock Me Amadeus Number 1 - March 1986
Falco - Vienna Calling Number 10 - May 1986
Opus - Live is Life Number 6 - June 1985

Whisper it, but I don't mind Edelweiss. *ducks for cover* Love it! I just moved out of Billy No Mates towers when I read this! Edelweiss had another hit in EUrope too felix, ... starring Mr. SPECK... I always thought this was the better tune from Edelweiss...

Gosh jno you're not encouraging Austrians to join the forum with this poll ! The only song I know from this list is Conchita's 'Rise Like A Phoenix'. Great winner of Eurovision in 2014, and strong song. Conchita has visited Australia three times. We love her out here and the chat show scene loves her. Tom is a clever and intuitive performer to create the character of Conchita. She does no harm to anyone by what she says. I like that. I can't vote on this one as I don't know the other songs.

Dreadful, just dreadful. And noisy, the lot of them.

How could you hate Falco? He was apparently a huge star In Europe and Amadeus hit the top spot in most countries including the US, died at 40.
The German versions of Rock Me Amadeus and Nena's 99 Luftballons, was used by our German teacher to teach us German. Nobody in class that day will ever forget the teacher doing air guitar to the German version of Luftballons and then sinking to his knees!

Falco is Austrian and I have to confess that words in songs are very difficult to follow for me. I find Falco's German diction/enunciation quite tricky to follow in his songs. Without seeing the words first, even now it's still a lot of hard work. Clearly he prefers to have an English 'hook' in the chorus though, giving his songs at least a mild international appeal somehow. As for DJ Ötzi - mein Gott, he should never have been allowed to enter the recording studio if he ever even did ... some German everyone understands that sums this muppet up: das ist absolut voll Scheiße!

DJ Otzi's songs were the worst - because he had massive hits on the back of no originality.
Opus 'Live Is Life' was a bit traditional for 1985 but a fairly harmless song without hiding its Europe-ness.
'Bring Me Edelweiss' was an early example of sampling. There were other such records in 1989 (a lot of them indifferent). At least it gave us a chance to hear classic parts of 'S.O.S.' at a time before Abba were cool again.
I quite liked Falco's songs at the time - it was 1986, you didn't have to be outstanding to make a good single. I don't really class them as novelties unlike the other songs mentioned.

Austria has never been the Mecca for pop music. Any song from Sound of Music usurps any of the above list. As a consequence, I'm sitting this one out.

"if not all"!?
KarinB is absolutely right here in many ways. Good I've already joined. And I love her opinion of Conchita/Tom. My thoughts exactly. An adorable person in many ways. Nice to know that she is loved in Australia. Falco?! Thanks daz for your comment. Falco is legend in many ways. I have never been a massive fan of the man himself, but he had some great songs and I always like listening to his music. As for the poll: DJ Ötzi should have been banned from ... everything. So the worst 3 are easy to pick. Sad to say there is even worse on the stage right now.

To be honest, I can stomach Falco, Opus and with felixdeburgh on my side, I can say Edelweiss too. However, SunRayD is correct, I agree - DJ Ötzi is prime candidate number 1 should public hanging and fruit throwing ever return.

Voted for DJ Otzi 3 times. Falco songs are actually OK and I rather like Edelweiss because of the Goofy holler.

Can I vote for Conchita Wurst three times please? Still haven't got over the fact that she beat my favourite song in the 2014 Eurovision into 21st place...

Falco - Rock Me Amadeus - easily the best... I like Edelweiss, too
