Can I have two votes.. They're both a couple of nauseous ****ends. I don't wanna vote for just one of em, but equally I cannot sit on the fence.

This is a key question and one that is very difficult to answer. They are both outstanding in the field of annoying and patronising humanitarianism. I would find it very hard to distinguish between them in this sphere - so I will sit on the fence and declare them both equally annoying and patronising in a very big way.

As much as I really detest the two of them, I'll go with Geldof. In the lead up to Live Aid the guy was finished and had no money, look at him now.
Now, I know he did a lot of good with live aid and not wanting to take anything away from the guy for that, but he hasn't done too badly out of it career wise, he really was staring into the abyss before Live Aid.
As much as it pains me to say it Bono is a success because of the music he makes with U2, so fair play for that, it's his continued forays into humanitarian issues whist having, what I will term "dubious accounting practices" with his money which annoys me about him most. Others in U2 do this, but don't preach like Bono, so not got the same issue with them.

I voted Geldof because I genuinely like U2. Bono is still pretty annoying though.

Bonio for me.
At least Geldof tried to do some good with his 'Aid' adventures, whereas Bonio just bleats on and on and on...

At least Geldof can sing a little bit....always get blisters hearing bono howl his magic....awful.
So, for the topic, Bono it is.

Now then, in a dimension far far from here, over zealous mods have been known to ban people for strong language used in posts once made about 80s pop stars. Fortunately (even as a Sting fan) I am far more lenient but sorry, I have to disagree with what you typed in that post Lee - aside from the edit. Yes Sting is a bit up himself but let's not turn this thread into an expletive fest.
Whatever folks say about Sting (some of it true), he wrote a lot of hits back in the early 80s and as a three piece, The Police had a great dynamic. However up himself Sting might be, he's still streets ahead of Phil Collins for me. For me, Bono really did rip off a lot of Sting in the 80s.
In terms of music - I really don't mind The Police, U2 and can just about stomach The Boomtown Rats as well. In terms of this topic, I think initially all the names mentioned started off with the best of intentions. They certainly highlighted many of the world's issues.
That said, it is very difficult to see very very rich people telling others to hand over their 'hard earned' in the name of charity. Also we had Geldof in the 80s, Sting on rainforests, Bono on charity of the month but the point is these problems haven't necessarily been solved.
Meanwhile Sting & Bono who are clearly raking it in month after month, decade after decade earning stupid money for royalties - if I'm honest they can clearly afford to give far more in terms of hard cash to any charitable cause than average Joe.
In terms of the question, I sat on the fence - I see no real difference between any of them - there are far worse culprits for diving into the public spotlight everytime a hot topic turns up. Piers Morgan and Mark Zuckerberg ... dear oh dear, give me Bono any day over these two but I'm already going off topic.

Both are false. Both are patronising. Both are smug. Both are holier than thou with their opinions. Bono hasn't recorded anything of note since 1992, and Geldof since 1979. Perhaps this is why they have to stay in the spotlight with their views, casually ensuring it doesn't rock their own boat (Bonos millions and Geldofs parenting skills) A few years ago, I met Bruce Foxton (The Jam), a lovely bloke who signed for a few fans whilst they related to him what The Jams songs meant to them. I got talking to one who said he just collected autographs. He then told me Bob Geldof had played the venue a few weeks previously and refused to sign until he had eaten. He followed Bob to an Indian restaurant and waited for 2 hours. Bob emerged much later and said to the fan, "oh, so your still here? Just don't sell this on eBay!". The fan joked back, "I will if I ever need £5", Bob snapped back, "F**k off, you blew it!" and refused to sign! I have read similar stories about St Bob, who still dines out on Live Aid. It's well known Edge, Adam & Larry can't stand Bono, but they make money. A LOT of money, so they can stomach it. Funny how the rest of U2 seem a good set of lads away from Bono as well. For me, it's Bob on this vote.

Ace, I honestly never knew the lads from U2 couldn't stick Bono. I don't like the music of U2 so avoid them like the plague.
I know of a guy who claims to have worked with Geldof in a pea processing factory somewhere in England in the 70s and said he was a complete ******
The film 'Killing Bono' is worth a watch of anyone's time.

Ace, I honestly never knew the lads from U2 couldn't stick Bono. 'You don't have to like each other if your on the same team, you still have to pass the ball to them' Teddy Sheringham on his fractured relationship with Andy Cole at Man Utd.

I've heard a lot of stories about Geldof being unpleasant to fans. Paula Yates, who was very sexy, got a lot of stick when she left him. I bet lots would be more sympathetic now.
I think of him more as Satan (not saint) Bob
Bono would be ok if he stuck to his day job, though I think U2 are past their best now.

I think we could add Gary Lineker to the list nowadays. His view about those being concerned about the "child" refugees, accusing them of being racist, officially made him a humanitarian according to the left. To me, he comes across as a champagne socialist of the highest order, who is desperate to try and impress the left. His presence on MOTD annoys me as he comes across as smug.

Zimbo - I doubt very much Lineker is a socialist, annoying and smug maybe, but a socialist, no.
