Wow, what a sad state of affairs this is. Admittedly there are a lot of people killed every day on the street, but obviously as this is all over the news, it's a sad story and I can't help feel sorry for those left behind. American tourist outside Houses of Parliament on Sky News just now stating UK needs more security and a few more guns. The world is turning into such a nice place. Whether you agreed with her opinions or not, no one deserves this. RIP Jo Cox.

Staggering news. What is this country coming to? Jo Cox, by all accounts, was a great MP and destined for a bright future in the Commons. My thoughts are with her family.
So sad.
RIP Jo.

Jo Cox, by all accounts, was a great MP and destined for a bright future in the Commons. Whilst very tragic and sad, I think the papers are singing her praises prematurely in that she was only in office for a year, and that there isn't THAT much footage of her in PMQs. Its still a very tragic ending for a lady who was family orientated as opposed to her being ruthless power crazed like some newly elected MPs.

I agree wholeheartedly with what you have written Ace. I always find it sad when a person so young dies, in circumstances such as yesterday is even more tragic.
If the politicians who have been singing her praises the past 24 hours really want to remember her properly, then maybe they could start by conducting themselves with a bit more honour and live up to the 'honourable' part of their titles, then at least something positive can come from this tragic death.
Such a shame.

The main suspect in her killing is supposed to be an extreme right-wing sociopath who keeps chanting "death to traitors!" Obviously someone who needs to be sectioned immediately.

I'd suggest what's needed is to stop the cutting of mental health services in this country, but...this probably isn't the place. Jo Cox was by all accounts a much respected constituency MP and, we shouldn't forget, the mother of two young children. Terrible business.

Great post ltd.
Apparently this nutter who (allegedly) murdered her calls himself "Death to traitors, freedom for Britain".
I see that:
An appeal in Cox’s name raised more than £260,000 in less than 24 hours to support charities working to counter loneliness, challenge extremism, and fund search and rescue workers in Syria.

Apparently this nutter who (allegedly) murdered her calls himself "Death to traitors, freedom for Britain". French TV had this story yesterday with the headline "BREXIT:" slapped before it. Freedom for Britain - I don't want to bring political debate to this forum as consequences could be dire for all, but what I can say is a little of my experiences of living a few different places. Most notably this - most places have their fair share of nutters (and benefit spongers), both indigenous native and those who land in a country. To brand any one of these two types as the major contributor to a problem is a little short-sighted I feel. In Austria, my neighbours are complete benefit spongers, have criminal records, clearly vote for Austria's "Freedom" party and haven't done a day's work in their lives. They all get handouts from the state and expect some easy life funded for them by the state. Of course, they are the first to tell everyone that foreigners like me are bringing the country to its knees, despite the fact all my family work, pay tax, have learnt the language etc. etc. If freedom means it's OK to murder a mother of two in the street, then clearly he needs to go back to school.

In work today we all decided not to discuss the referendum as a mark of respect to Jo Cox.
To see so many MPs moved to tears this afternoon was quite something.

Like jno I don't really want this to get political, especially given the specific rules for this thread. I will say my politics weren't the same as Jo Cox's by any means, but in a way that's irrelevant. Murder is murder and must be condemned without reservation or equivocation, regardless of what ideological dressing someone tries to use to justify it. We're supposed to engage those we don't agree with in civilized debate. We don't conduct arguments with knives and guns in this country, that's the way of the terrorist, or as it seems in this particular case the lunatic.

RIP Jo Cox.
I like to think that MPs are doing their best for their constituents.
Also, you need healthy debate if not rivalry to invigorate things. The opportunity for this should not be terminated by murders.

The opportunity for this should not be terminated by murders. I agree - and I think it's true there are a lot of MPs of whatever stripe who do work hard for their constituents. Some of you may remember Jacqui Smith who didn't have the happiest tenure as Home Secretary. She was also the MP for my home town, and one of our old neighbours, a Polish lady who'd been with the Free Polish forces during the war, had a spot of trouble with the DSS, and she said Ms Smith sorted it out for her no trouble. Couldn't speak highly enough of her. Just goes to show you can't judge people by what the papers say about them.

It's probably too late, anyway. And yeah, it's a shame that Jo Cox died. As others have said, let's hope this spurs our politicians to do better.
