Every new series/season had a slightly different theme tune and opening titles, but which is your favourite? Pick ONE!
Season 1
Season 2
Season 3
Season 4

It's a toss up between 2 & 4 for me.. With probably 2 edging it because it's a bit funkier.

Series 1 all the way for me. No question! I can see why you'd say that, the problem is that it sounds like part of an instrumental score rather than a theme tune.

Series 1 all the way for me. No question! Me too! I love the name credit for Starsky with him running like he's trying to catch a bus. The music is gritty 1970s. Much better. Didn't recognise music from 3 and 4 at all. Forgot how Bernie Hamilton looked like Don King in the opening credits.

The series 1 theme tune was used for the climactic action scene in the pilot when Starsky and Hutch chased the two killers.

I think it's a shame Lalo Schifrin couldn't score more series 1 episodes. They added to the gritty, dramatic nature of those early episodes. It would have been nice if there was an official Film Score Monthly release of his work for S&H, including the pilot and The Fix.

Season 2 sticks in your head a lot but I remember Season 1 and that somehow remains the correct one.

This is more like it: a proper poll! Girls Aloud? I mean, seriously....
Season 2 is by far the best of all the tunes. The song is called ‘Gotcha’ by Tom Scott. I would also highly recommend listening to the James Taylor Quartet’s version which blew me away the first time I ever heard it.
And JTQ’s live version (theme kicks in around 1:27):
