The 70s-80s-90s saw the rise of two big muscle superstars, but which of the two is your fave and why?

Arnie is just too Austrian all the time for me, which means his pronunciation of English is just too dire to attempt to satisfy so many diverse roles in so many films - ultimately they all end up the same. As it happens Arnie's Deutsch is questionable at times too. As mentioned on the Rocky thread, Sly doesn't take himself so seriously. He has a bit of diversity in the performance. His vocal skills are at least half satisfactory albeit substandard at times too. It's Stallone by a nose for me.

Tough guy? Seriously? The ONLY thing hard about them is when they wake up in the morning!

Tough guy? Seriously? The ONLY thing hard about them is when they wake up in the morning! I just cancelled that order of 'Escape Plan' and 'The Expendables' box set that was en route to ace5150 towers.

Stallone for me was the better actor. He was superb in the first Rocky, acceptable in Rocky II, showed his acting potential in Nighthawks and gave a phenomenal performance in First Blood. That movie kickstarted the '80s action genre with its gritty atmosphere, spectacular stunts and explosive gun battles. After that, he became typecast as a one-man army and his forays into comedy were dire. Still, he made a blazing return to form with Cliffhanger and Demolition Man before giving a truly sincere turn with Cop Land.
From 1984 to 1993, Arnie was pretty much unbeatable at the box office thanks to hits like The Terminator, Commando, Predator, The Running Man, Total Recall and Terminator 2. The Last Action Hero was an underrated satire on his own heroic image and True Lies was a fun action adventure despite having Arab Muslims as the baddies.

Arnie.. The Terminator, Commando and Conan The Barbarian are all winners for me! I never really liked Stallone's output much, although I have to say he's grown on me a lot over the years.. Both were/are a pair of muscle dummies though. (Albeit neither, it appears, are that 'dumb'!) Considering American cinema only, even in the 80s I preferred Bronson and Eastwood (although much of their best output was behind them) Chuck Norris did some pretty entertaining filums in the 80s........... and of course there was Ted Prior as Mike Danton!!! By the late 1980s though I began to discover what was going on in Hong Kong cinema and the HK output was in my opinion way way superior to anything coming out of America!

Arnie. His movies were just more fun like Running Man and Predator.

They both created iconic roles for themselves. Love them both ! 'Tough' guy film persona overall is Schwarzenegger imo. But Stallone would be my favourite film 'star' of the two. Loved Cliffhanger, Cobra (it is so cliched that it is great), Daylight, Nighthawks is a classic action/suspense that is still good today. I'm less keen on the Rambo series than the Rocky films, but that's just personal choice. Ok bored enough people with my Stallone talk.
