As 4.1 is the same as Minder's Rocky Eight & A Half episode number, the time has come to ask which is the best 'Rocky' film?
Rocky (1976)
Rocky II (1979)
Rocky III (1982)
Rocky IV (1985)
Rocky V (1990)
Rocky Balboa (2006)
Creed (2015)

Don't like them all, maybe I least disliked Rocky 4 as I always loved Dolph Lundgrens character.

I love Rocky II but I picked Rocky IV - for me this was a massive iconic film of the mid 80s, all over the video section of the paper shop I worked in and video shops nearby in posters, east vs west on film with an cliche 80s soundtrack I love, including:
Robert Tepper - No Easy Way Out Vince DiCola - Training Montage Survivor - Burning Heart Touch - The Sweetest Victory
As a kid Dolph Lundgren was scary and an 80s Brigitte Nielsen was genuinely fit as wotsit. With an 80s vibe cranked up to 11 even moreso than Mr.T I feel, it has to be this one for me.
I think the 1990 film and beyond probably shouldn't have been made and they should have stopped with IV as it was so massive.

After watching Rocky, I took up boxing in Hong Kong, a rarity considering how much martial arts was the norm! Pretty decent schoolboy division as well. For me, Rocky was the best. 2 was a cash-in, 3 was decent, 4 was so-so, I never watched the others, except Creed recently, if that counts?

Rocky, it has to be the original and the best. Some of the follow ups were decent, but I haven't seen Creed yet.

I'm not much of a Rocky fan, but I did rather like Rocky IV when it first came out. So IV it is.

None - ghastly films. Old sly baby is a rubbish actor too.

Old sly baby is a rubbish actor too. Good point there pp. I partly agree with this but the stupid "Kevin & Perry" style he adopts where he diagonally opens his norf'n'south and looks likes he needs medication just seems to suit those classic lines such as "You drew first blood!" and "Adriaaaaaaan!" so well. Rocky Balboa is a bit of a meathead so that's why Stallone suits the part. It's clearly been a money-spinner for him, and him and Andrew Sachs are probably two of a kind in that regard - Sly undoubtedly holding more wedge though. I would also like to apologise to Mr.T fans if viewing this thread on an Android device - the top extension to his head was purely coincidental:

Just realised the last time I went to the Cinema was 1985 to watch Rocky IV Yes if I'd have watched Rocky 4 at the pictures, that would've been the last time I'd of gone too!!

Absolutely awful series of films.. (#1 is okay I suppose ) I never saw above 4, I don't think. 1&3 were the better ones as I recall. Fair dos to Stallone though when he wrote the original, for sticking to his guns and refusing to sell the script/story unless he was in it.. I think that's how the legend goes. Good business sense considering he was a skint nobody and could have sold out... Also as far as SS goes, you just can't fault his work ethic or enthusiasm for the industry.

My mate swears blind he saw Rocky 4 at the pictures and everyone got up and started chanting "Rocky, Rocky, Rocky!" Over and over at the end! The losers! Having said that this was the same friend that said everyone got up and joined in singing at the end of Scrooged, in the cinema too...

Newsflash: 1 vote for Clubber Lang. Yep, I did it.. It was me. In all honesty I think the first film was the best of a pretty bad bunch, so I just thought what the heck... Vote Rocky III! I don't know why I voted that way, I think I might suffer from keyboard tourette's or something Mr T also appeared in the boxing film Penitentiary II in 1982 as Too Sweet's trainer. The Penitentiary series of movies being a very entertaining series of blaxploitation boxing movies (much better than that Rocky rubbish ), about a young man who is wrongfully sent to prison and has to learn how to put his considerable boxing talent to good use, in order to avoid being passed around as the prison b**ch! I kid ye not that is the plot line.... Great little movie, lots of fun, brimming with insane characters and their rather dubious motivations and lots of sweaty blokes duking it out in the ring! Like a cross between 'Mean Machine' (Reynolds) and 'Rocky' (Stallone).. Penitentiary 1&2 (maybe even Penitentiary III too, I cannot remember if I put this into the archive yet) reside in the CFA.

Rocky 1 is the best and Rocky Balboa is the best sequel, although I have yet to see Creed. Rocky 4 was silly 80s fun. Rocky 5 is the worst of the bunch.

Rocky 1 and 3 were the best, Rocky 4 was the ultimate guilty pleasure, but 5 hit the bottom of the barrel although it wasn't that bad.

I like them all. Even Rocky 5 which was quite a good story with Rocky mentoring a boxer who gets under the influence of a Don King style character.
Rocky III is my favourite. It has a great boxing story where Rocky is rich has made numerous defences then gets beat by a new tough fighter. He gets trained by Apollo Creed (and his old trainer) to get his old hungry feeling back. Very inspirational!
It has this great bit where Rocky gets enthusiastic again.

I'll never forget the network TV premiere of Rocky III back in January 1995. It was screened on ITV who were sponsored by Diet Coke at the time and I found it surprising that it took so many years to show the 3rd movie on British TV when they had already shown I, II and IV. I first saw Rocky 3 in the summer of 1986 when my brother rented it out from the local newsagent's and we watched it with my dad, uncle and cousins. Great days.

My brother and his mate saw Rocky IV at the local Unit 4/Apollo cinema in Blackburn in January 1986 and they loved it too. Afterwards, he got hold of the movie soundtrack and copied it onto tape. We listened to it endlessly but stopped until a few years later when he started listening to it again.

Well despite some obvious dislike of these films on here, I think Rocky, Rocky II and Rocky III were all good films. The first one is certainly my favourite. I admire Stallone. Writing, acting and directing most is to be commended. How many films follow the pattern of down and out struggler works hard and finds successful - plenty of them, and more will continue to follow that story formula because many people enjoy them. He doesn't have to be Laurence Olivier to be credited as an actor. If you see any interviews he does, he is the first to criticise his own acting. People happily lined up to see all the sequels and continue to do so, so why not provide those fans with what they want to see, Rocky back on the screen. Rocky ! Rocky !

Best film is the first one 100% but the best fight scene finale for me is the one in Rocky 4.

My mate swears blind he saw Rocky 4 at the pictures and everyone got up and started chanting "Rocky, Rocky, Rocky!" Over and over at the end! My story is worse. I saw Rocky IV twice at the cinema when I was 13 - first time in Leeds when people behaved like in any other cinema and just sat and watched the film while whispering, eating popcorn noisily, getting up to go to the toilet and so on. Then I saw it again (no idea why!) in Wakefield ABC and during the fight scene with Drago people were actually standing up and cheering Rocky on, things like "Go on Rocky", "Go on lad", "Hit 'im" and then they cheered when he won of course. FFS.... And you wonder why I left West Yorkshire as soon as I was able to BTW it looks like I'm the only person here who likes Rocky II. I loved the idea of The Italian Chicken

Probably not a popular choice, but I thought Rocky (1976) and Rocky Balboa (2006) were the only two films in the series which were actually decent films. The others were diverting and enjoyable enough, but the only two I think are essential movies at Rocky and Rocky Balboa. Mind you, I've not seen Creed.
Of the two I prefer, I actually rate Rocky Balboa the highest.
