Just heard the sad news of the passing of Eagles mainman Glenn Frey aged 67, as a result of complications from rheumatoid arthritis, ulcerative colitis and penumonia.
RIP Glenn

Very sad. Have to be honest and say I'm not a big Eagles fan. Sad nonetheless.
With the demise of a few rock and pop stars recently, wonder who'll be next? If I was betting person, I'd have 50p each way bet on Brian Wilson. The old smack head should've croaked years ago. Last time I saw Wilson interviewed he looked knackered and dilapidated. He [probably] needs two bottles of viagra to lift a mug of coffee.

I shouldn't speak ill of the dead, and I feel for his friends, fans and family, but I can't stand The Eagles. I just can't stand them. Joe Walsh is good though, and I did like Don Henleys Boys of Summer as a solo hit in 84 or 85. Apart from that, I just think any American MOR AOR music makes me want to turn the radio off. I cannot abide it.

I like Don Henley's Sunset Grill. A very slow, sleazy and atmospheric tune.

I like Hotel California and can listen to the odd track of American MOR/AOR but not a whole album of it.

An all time classic, I have the soundtrack on CD, I love the bit at the end where IN THE CITY plays as they walk along the beach........ .......A mate of mine said that in his raving days at Lydd aerodrome in the mid 1990s, they used to play that song as the last song when the lights went on at the crack of dawn, complete with the dialog from the soundtrack too!

Hedonistic lifestyle of a rocker, or if you are a soul artist, having your head blown off by your religiously deranged father - ah, joys of the music world.

I just think any American MOR AOR music makes me want to turn the radio off. I cannot abide it. Yes, it is not a favourite genre of mine, Unfortunately, to my ears 'The Heat Is On' (as posted by Terry above) epitomises this. Though it can have its moments. And 'Smugglers Blues' by Glenn (which you don't normally hear now) is one that I like, though wasn't typical. A favourite Eagles song was 'Take It To The Limit'. RIP Glenn Frey. People from the 'classic era' of music keep dying....

Any of your guys had 70s classmates who were into the Eagles?

They were the sort of band a schoolmate's older brother would like. I also think their soft rock style was easy on the ear for people who might not be interested in current pop.
I recall a customer where I was working hearing 'Take It To The Limit'. It was the first song he heard on the hospital radio after being told he had beaten cancer. So it was very uplifting for him whenever he heard it.
He was of an older generation who might not otherwise be interested in The Eagles.
