We're raining cats and dogs this week in this 'pet off'. So, which do you prefer? Cat or Dog? Whose dog is this?

Is that the Hound of the Baskervilles or has the dog actually got laser death beams for eyes??

Cats all day long, love 'em. If I were Korean, I'd answer 'dog'

Got to be cat...
What is the old joke...if your dog sees its master painting a wall it watches with pure admiration. But a cat will watch with a look of 'looks OK but I could have done it better'...

The Littlest Hobo is so cute I still prefer cats though, even if they are evil.

I used to prefer cats when I was a child but I got a dog in my early teens and my opinion changed. Therefore I think dogs are better than cats. I still like cats though.. In fact I like most animals, it's just people that irritate me

I have had cats and dogs in the past. Due to living alone and shift work I no longer have pets of my own. But I have been volunteering at an animal sanctuary in recent years. I am able to get active dogs out of the pens for long walks. Here is Ace who we re-homed in 2015, seen earlier this year visiting Blackhall Rocks, which may be recognised as the end scene from 'Get Carter'. He is standing on the remains of the aerial flight, which deposited Ian Hendry into the sea: Attachment Deleted

That is ace. I bet they enjoy their location tours too. I have had cats and dogs. Cats are easier to care for because they don't seem to care when you walk out the door to go to work whereas dogs need company more. I currently have one of each.

Too many of my family have been bitten by dogs, including myself, and one cousin of mine was severely injured. Another cousin nearly had his ear torn off. No one I know has ever been seriously harmed by a cat, so I'm going feline.

In fact I like most animals, it's just people that irritate me Couldn't have said it better. I always describe myself as a person with a social competence factor of -3. No one I know has ever been seriously harmed by a cat, so I'm going feline. My first one did quite a damage to people. Many were really afraid of him sometimes, me included. But he was great. I vote for cats. I have always been a cat person for various reasons and still do grieve for my second and last one, though he passed away more than 4 years ago. He was extraordinary. Two quotes I have to contribute, altough the first is a well known one, I know. And one from the wonderful Terry Pratchett, which will give an insight to their attitude:

Picked up our new kitty on Thursday. She's gorgeous. Around a year old. Although only 3 days she's adapting well to family life.

She seems pretty chilled out already. I'll post some pics over the coming days, assuming I can suss how to paste digital pics.

My daughter wants the name 'Bubbles'. You should call her 'Sir Kitty Wig'.. After forum fave, Cliff. That's immediately who I thought of when I saw the thread title Bubbles isn't any name for a cat.. It's a monkey's name.

Not always.. I've had girlfriends that I have shown certain degrees of care, loyalty and affection toward, and in return they've behaved like total cow bags! So not all animals mirror their surroundings.

It's a monkey's name. Some weeks ago we were toying with buying two kittens and the names came up as 'Bubble and Squeek". We decided on one so Bubbles was the name my daughter chose. Given my daughter has had a bad time since we had our old cat put to sleep, Bubbles is good enough for me.

A squirrel will win all day long. I saw a dogs face ripped to shreds after it cornered a squirrel. Horrid. I think cats know the score. My cat caught a snake in Hong Kong. She was fearless.

It's been three weeks and kitty is settling fine. However, unsure when to let her out. Her ID tag has come through.
She's been gagging to get out, and it seems cruel to keep her in as she's deffo an outdoor puss.
Seems strange that we had the previous one for 18+ years - I should be an expert but the truth is she was 18 months old when I first met Mrs. P.
Any pointers would be appreciated.

Congrats on the new cat plasticpenguin. Also Misty is very cute looking. I have a cat called Rocky. He had a rough start as when he was about 8 months old he got bitten by a tiger snake. I think he must have just thought it was something fun to play with. Luckily he decided to come home immediately and I could tell what had happened. He just flopped on the ground tired and he looked dazed in the eyes. Normally he was jumping off the walls with energy so a quick visit to the vet, anti venom and an anxious 24 hour wait. He recovered completely but it took many weeks until his muscles recovered from the venom. That was last year. This year he decided to eat a spider and it bit him inside his mouth ! A swollen cheek and another trip to the vet. This little guy is unbelievable. I'm glad we're not near croc country ! I made him and previous pet cat stay inside for the first six months. I wanted them to associate the inside with home. It worked with the first cat but not with Rocky ! Even the dog is a bit nervous around him.
