Sad to report the passing of Anthony Valentine. Immortalised in Colditz, Raffles and of course, Minder as Maurice Michaelson.

Very sad to hear this Ace. Great actor famous for loads of TV roles. He was 76.
Also brilliant as Toby Meres in 'Callan', 'Robin of Sherwood' and dozens of other TV Series.
RIP.

I reckon he should have been in The Sweeney. A wasted opportunity. He was also a gangster in The Fear. I remember him as an escaped convict in an episode of Thriller.

A top actor who impressed in everything he appeared in and was one of the best actors/characters to have graced Minder. I cannot wait to get Raffles at Christmas now, so I can watch a few episodes.
RIP

Yes, just seen this. Very sad.
Thought his character in Minder was really good. Always wished they had made one or two more episodes with him still playing the pro-gambler and Terry doing the minding.
RIP Anthony V...

Anthony Valentine- one of This country's best actors. Always brought massive screen presence to whatever he did.

Spot on about the 'screen presence', wayne2467. His character was a very strong one in the two early Series episodes. Often used to mix Anthony Valentine up with Peter Egan.

Gutted - I loved Anthony in lots of different shows most notably, just off the top of my head: Meers in Callan (superb), Raffles (superb), Hammer House Of Horror, Armchair Cinema, Killer Exposed and The Knock. Everything he was in he probably became the one of the most notable characters, if the not the most notable character in it - a fantastic presence on screen through his mannerisms and accent. Very sad and I would have loved to hear what he had to say about Maurice. Such a shame he has gone.
RIP Anthony.

I'd agree with all the above. Also I'd mention his performance in The Fear as a wily old school villain running rings around the new yuppie generation as yet another career highlight. Like Vicboy I'd love to have seen him pop up in Minder a few more times.

Yeah such shame, I didn't realise that he had been suffering with Parkinson's disease for the past few years.

I was only thinking of the episode of TALES OF THE UNEXPECTED he was in the other day! What an awful year it has been for sad departures! Arthur Daley, John Steed, Alf Garnett, Blakey, and now Maurice :-(

Just looked at his imdb listing. AV started his career in 1949 and didn't really stop until 2011. Absolute stalwart of the British film/tv industry.
RIP.

RIP Anthony. As others have said he was always a very charismatic performer. Maurice Michaelson was brilliant.

There was a very decent episode of 'Hammer House of Horror' on last night starring AV, certainly one of the better offerings from this series.

Scared to put Minder on these days as I always end up Googling one-off or side actors and getting a shock they have recently passed away!
Anthony Valentine was such a perfect character in "Whose Wife is it Anyway"
I love it when Arthur is sleeping next to Peggy in Terry's flat on the floor and he has to wake her up and she thinks its Terry and hugs Arthur only to realise after!
"Thats not very kind. Nobody looks their best this time in the morning..." Arthur

The Knock is very good. Dennis Waterman shows up in series 3, but this series isn't out on DVD. I have the whole lot but worth starting from the beginning as the characters are the same throughout and you'll miss things starting with the Dennis eps.

Sorry to read this. I just watched his Minder episode for the first time yesterday. I've seen him in various roles but I identify him most with Toby Meres in Callan. Sadly in the US the only Callan available on DVD are the color episodes. He is memorable as the ruthless, public school boy thug, Toby Meres. I especially like the creepy, oily way he said David when speaking to Callan.

Very talented actor His facial expressions and his cool manner and dialogue delivery, Think he ended up in family affairs, and still made a great character, out of a s**t programme. Raffles was a great series first and foremost because of Valentine.
Maurice michealson I salute you. Rip Anthony Valentine.
