Young Keithy strikes me as a bit culturally confused - Bob Marley painted on the back of his leather but also seems to be wearing a Black Sabbath t-shirt. A rather unlikely combo I'd have thought. Both parties rumoured to be fond of the odd doobie or five so there's that connection at least.
This is one of the first ones I remember watching with my Dad back when I was a young 'un so it's got a lot of nostalgia value for me. It being such a good episode doesn't hurt either. The scrap in Dermot's garage is really well done; short, sharp and brutal.

Superb episode with some great comedy moments combined with pathos that could almost have been John Sullivan at his best. The comedic moments I love are the reference from Arthur’s fellow patient referring to his Chalfonts, followed by Arthur’s reaction, then the comment about ‘A little prick’, and Arthur under sedation murmuring to Chisholm. Combine that with the emotion of the letter being written by Arthur to Terry and the deceased’s brother walking into the distance as the villains are knocked it is very touching. And at the same time ‘Wendy’, the agoraphobic mastermind of it all banging on the back of the Police van wanting to be let in - brilliant writing. Add a good cast, some good pinch ups and this is one of my favourite episodes.

Arthur constantly name-dropping he had private health cover (with the comical acronym PHArTI), only for it to be revealed at the end he hadn't even been a member for a year.

Get Daley finds that perfect balance between the earlier grittier series and the more lighthearted later series really well. You go from the dark scene at the back of the pub with Chisholm getting information from his grass to the hilarious sight of Arthur coming from behind the hospital curtain wearing his red silk pajamas and trilby and it works beautifully. Some really laugh out loud moments - no matter how many times I watch this episode I always crack up at the "Just a little prick".."He's got a lovely smile though" gag. A great fight scene which rivals the one from "In" on the bus. Brilliant performances - Kevin Lloyd, Harold Goodwin, it always feels odd when I see Gordon Kaye in anything other than Allo Allo) but everyone is at the top of their game. Great final scene at the Winchester, fifty minutes of top TV what more could you ask for. 5 out of 5.

I've been slowly ploughing my way through the DVD box set and reached this one today. Classic Minder with loads to like. Always good to see Chisholm at his best - I loved seeing his treatment of Dermott and his "....poodle our way to your drum....." comment. Arthur's description of his upcoming operation as 'major surgery' was typical, as were his airs and graces at being a private patient. I thought it was quite unusual for Arthur to admit to having phoned the police after Joe Harrison's heart attack - "I called everyone bar the RSPCA". Wendell's character oozed sleaze and his flat must have been an unpleasant place to be. The appearance of Dermott's henchmen was a bit of a mystery - how could they have known that Terry was going to visit? One thing that got me puzzled was Sandra's credit in the opening titles. The part was a very minor one - maybe it was down to the status of the actress as opposed to her part?
The hospital was very reminiscent of hospitals in my childhood, where there would be a commissionaire on duty at Reception and everything was geared towards the medical aspect of the building rather than the commercial aspect so common in today's hospitals.

Great episode this, nice balance of comedy and drama🙂
One the hospital room where Arthur is in,would they really have lock on the door like the one he has? It is not a private room is it!! Looks more like an office door.
Only query really of a great episode.👍

My favourite laugh out loud moment was the scene in the hospital when Dunning met the surgeon who operated on his Chalfonts. Dunning asked if he remembered him - the surgeon replied "I am afraid your face doesn't mean much to me" !! . Another was the look of a mix of disgust and mortification on Arthur's face as he caught himself looking at the breasts of the naked female mannequins. The poignant moment when Arthur said "You're a good boy Terry" as if they were to be his last words before going to meet the Guv'nor in the sky - but just out of Terry's earshot - to save Arthur's embarrassment at being seen to go all maudlin. The goons after Dermott in the garage would have been Wendy's men - Keith Wendell had let on to his dad on that Harry Martin had told Dermott he had seen Arthur leaving Harrisons - and that's how Chisholm knew. I guess part of Harry's scheme to throw the police off the scent of Keith and himself. I guess Wendy wanted to know exactly what he knew.
Lastly has the pub been identified where Terry met Tony Apsey and Sandra to tell them the news about Harrison and where Chisholm pressures his grass Dermott for info ?

The goons after Dermott in the garage would have been Wendy's men That's a really interesting point. I'd always assumed that the two guys just happened to be mates of Dermotts who turned up to find Terry putting on the pressure and stepped in to help their mate. If they were sent by Wendy why would they have got involved with Terry?

I read it as both Terry and Wendy's men were both trying to get hold of Dermott - by tailing Chisholm to a meet. And for similar reasons - how much did Dermott really know and who was he planning to tell ? It just so happened that Terry and Wendy's heavies found him at the same time. Maybe the thugs arriving and seeing them both together assumed Terry was one of Dermott's mates or maybe working on the assumption that if Dermott had already given Terry the SP - both had to be dealt with .
