A fantastic episode, I agree with just about everything said. The final scenes..getting Arthur out of hospital...Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em maybe?

Watched in bed this morning after Windows episode Didn't recognise Gordon Kaye as Sammy. When Wendy has a go at his son with the accountant smirking is good, but then Wendy has a go at the accountant, the sons face is priceless. One question, in the scene where Arthur is visited by the Hospital financial administrator, why does the patients name on the bed read "J Hills" (I think) I like the scene where Vic walks off into the misty morning after the police arrive and Sammy is feeling his lumps! Oh, on Sammy, at the end by the rugby posts where he lunged at Terry, have his trousers split? You suddenly see a blue patch where his @rse is.

He was excellent in Allo, Allo, but his character was never tough. Amongst the slapstick in the episode, there was a brief poignant scene of the brother of the dead man walking away at the end of the fight. Must be one of the very few Minder episodes where a character dies.

I watched some of this on ITV4 and noticed (I think) that the bit where the nurse gives Arthur the injection and says "just a little prick", and Terry says "but he has a lovely personality" has been cut.
I have noticed several cuts on classic tv over the last few days. A gay gag was cut from On the Buses, and I saw the end of the Sweet Smell of Succession episode of the Sweeney and the bit where Regan mentions "nicking the local poof in the toilets" has now been cut from tv.

This showed up on a well known auction site recently, July 1982's 'Airgun World' magazine.

BIB I just assumed that it belonged to one of the cast or crew and they took it in for them.

Watched this for the first time last night, absolutely cracking episode. Just the right balance of Arthur's cowardice and melodrama over the operation coupled with his usual penny pinching like reversing the call charges to the Winchester.

Great episode, like many I used to have the commercial VHS copy of this so one of the episodes I've seen the most but still enjoyable watching it last night for the first time in many a year. I am surprised that Gordon Kaye had such an innocuous role, and didn't get a credit in the opening titles; he was already an established star, and 'Allo 'Allo had started in 1982 and was one of the BBC's high-profile prime-time sitcoms, so a bit odd that he should tuck in so quietly here.
With regard to Keith's Air Gun magazine being an old copy, I got the impression he was such an obsessive about guns, he would hoard old copies and peruse them endlessly, so not so odd that he'd be reading it when out of date.

Just one thing that did bother me slightly - when Chisholm accosts Dermott in the pub, and is told that Arthur was present at the scene of Harrison's collapse, Dermott refers to him as 'some bloke called Arthur Daley'. Bit of a rubbish grass if he's working Chisholm's manor and has never come across Arthur before, surely?

Fantasic - an old Lucozade bottle! If the bobbly glass bottle was still around I'd probably still fancy a Lucozade now. Loved the old Transit and the SD1 bombing across the pitch, not many better nostalgia trips for someone that grew up in the 80s than an episode of Minder Going to rewind to see if I can work out which horse the portrait on Albert's wall is... Portrait is of Arkle - not the most difficult Puzzle to be fair Himself and Pat Taaffe after the 1965 Gold Cup

The bobbly glass bottle with thin, crinkly plastic around it. Really evocative of the 1980s & always reminds me of my nan, for whom Lucozade was a miracle cure for everything - nosebleed, sprained ankle, flu, mumps, cancer - probably even COVID-19; “Get a glass of lucozade down you, you’ll be right as rain”

One of the best episodes without doubt. Always chuckle with Arthur subscribing to PHATI. Anyone reckon Arthur’s red polka dot smoking jacket was one of Terry’s old boxing robes !! And the silk pjs with his initials, touch of class my son.

LoL Lucozade in the big bottles with the crinkly, shiny wrapper around the neck. I remember my Dad bringing the big bottles to anyone who was in hospital. It didn't matter that they were clearly very poorly, it was just what you did. Perk them up for a bit, they may still appreciate it to wet their whistle.

I loved the old Lucozade with the wrapper. In those days it was marketed as a health drink. Now because of the sugar tax they have added some harsh sweeteners and it is no longer a treat.

What a class episode to folow up the pretty awful "Windows". I worked with a bookies years ago amd one of the head guys there was a dead ringer for Wendell. He wasnt at all nasty, on the contrary but lazy as f***. I let one of my buddys who worked with us know about the likeness and hes looking up the episode now to watch. Great that its such a fine episode of minder too for him

It's a great episode all round, a good story, Chisholm has some very good lines, great punch up, plenty of great dialogue from Arthur and some laughs. As logie said, let us know what he thinks.

Tel: "Yeah Tony used to be a bit of a tearaway right but he's straight now, he's got a fridge freezer, fiance, the lot" One of my favourite lines so far - a perfect summing up of what respectability equated to in the world of Arthur and Terry. Top 5 episode - beautifully written and directed.

I was only reading last night in the Dominic Sandbrook book 'Never had it so good' that by 1964 thanks to Hire Purchase:
9/10s of households owned a TV 3/4 a vacuum cleaner 1/2 owned a washing machine 1/3 a fridge
Provides some context on how late it was for many households to get their hands on something as basic as a fridge.

Just watched this today and agree it’s a very good episode. As said previously, top punch up and the humour really came through. The patient who gives Arthur the benefit of his experience of the hospital was really funny, along with Arthur’s reaction to him. Pretty sure the actor who played him had a part in Bridge On the River Kwai.

Always liked this one, if it's on ITV4 like today I'll sit down and watch it if I can. Arthur's note to Terry is really quite touching and the scene with him on the anaesthetic talking to Chisholm and Jones is hilarious. Arthur has the comedy of course but it's a very Terry-orientated episode and nice to see the bad guys get a proper spanking and end up with a stay at Her Majesty's pleasure.
As others have said, Chisholm is a lot more unpleasant than usual but we don't often see him with his snouts who I guess would mostly be little worms like Dermot.
