The fruit machine scene was priceless.

I've always really liked this one, anyone who doubts the quality of the Ray episodes needs to watch this one as if it was a Terry one it would be rated very highly. I think the idea of smuggling in/hiding stolen coins in fruit machines is a good one and something that could probably work. Not all the coins were dated 1988 like the ones in Arthurs change as when Dave opens the fruit machine you can see coins with various dates some 1970's also the new coins in paper rolls had 1986 written on them.
I hadn't noticed that when Arthur is in the teacup he is holding a goldfish in a bag of water (that i presume he or Ray won) that explains why the woman taking the money on the ghost train passes Arthur the fish in a bag, before I thought she was thinking he wanted to buy it but she was just looking after it for him whilst he was on the ride. I wonder if he gave it to Ray to keep Raquel company.
I think I have somewhere recorded on video in I guess 1993 a HTV trailer for programs coming up later in the week that shows a clip of Arthur and Ray hiding out inside the ghost train.

This is a superb bit of TV and an excellent Ray episode from start to finish, which is why I voted it excellent. Please dig out your VHS tapes Albie, would love to see that.

The problem with my VHS collection is that there are a lot of tapes all stored at my parents house, some dated others not some with programs listed others not I also don't have a working VHS machine set up. If I can at some point go through them I shall try and find it along with the trailer for 'A Year In Provence' that I mentioned in the thread I created here a couple of weeks ago link (There is a chance they are on the same tape as both programmes date from February 1993). I seem to remember it was a female voice over saying something like "and it's a day out at the funfair for Arthur and Ray in this weeks Minder" and it's show them hiding in the ghost train ride.

Watched this one again last night and found myself enjoying it a lot more this time round. Per a previous post I still think you'd have to be some kind of mug to pull a caper with relatively low value coins as the loot. That said, Arthur seems to recognise this when he talks about the Dublin Mint robbery and taps his head while making a rather enigmatic remark that sounds like, "In with the washing. Back at three."

Alexie Nolan is a very nasty and dogy piece of work is played very well by Sean McGinley.
I don't envy Ray being nutted by him - his cranium is ginormous, he's like a real life Klingon.

They forgot to mention that Chris Matthews also played Eddie Venables in High Drains Piltherer.

This is tough one to judge. Some absolutely belting lines and scenes, many mentioned already - Arthur loaded down with coins, the fight scene, Morley being unable to hand over the cheque, the handshakes, Arthur being rolled into taking a one-armed bandit - and I roared out load when all those plod in the hotel put down the phones in the phone booths as they follow Alexie's men as they arrive at the hotel. But the Ghost Train was overdone (too long) and I'm not sure about the telescopes - that really is on the very edge of credible even with Arthur's abilities - but maybe that's a good thing as the Committee hang on his every word as Morley stares agog. Ray is definitely now in Terry territory, both in fisticuffs, getting Arthur of out the brown stuff and of course, away with a lovely lady. Go on then - let's have a vote for an Excellent.
