Here is a two page article from the TV TIMES from 15th January 1994 when 10.3 'All Things Brighton Beautiful' was first broadcast, to mark 100 episodes of Minder!

I very much like "Bernie The Bosh" in this one - clearly he is a blast from the past in this episode - a character that everyone is scared to death of. This story is the first of three written by original script writer Tony Hoare in this final series. It is a nice change to see Arthur & Ray off the manor with a trip down to Brighton and great to see some locations featured down there. The exploding caravan is very much a highlight of this episode for me and a nice alternative ending with a twist to mark the 100th episode!

The great thing is, Bernie The Bosh is first mentioned in "Looking For Micky".

The great thing is, Bernie The Bosh is first mentioned in "Looking For Micky". Nice one Swainy! Never connected the dots on this one before. Thanks I like this episode, slightly unbelievable overall story line granted, but enough in other areas to like. Caravan going up was good and the bucket of water out of the window! And yes, I too liked the menacing build up to The bosh and the twist at the end...and I always enjoy seeing Arthur off his manor. And the skinheads in the café with Ray always make me laugh (for some reason).

No offence, but I find this a weak episode:
1. Andrew Sachs is an absolute ham throughout 2. The skinhead is a terrible actor! 3. The finale is pretty naff (he's now a religious nutter!) 4. The plot is beyond ridiculous etc. etc. Surprised Tony Hoare let this one through his quality control...

I was watching this one again this morning. I wouldn't be surprised if Sidney's character originally started life as Solly Salmon from 'Return Of The Invincable Man'. They are virtually the same character, plus with Solly's past history with insurance scams I think that would have made this story easier to accept.

Here are two little articles from the TV TIMES from 15th January 1994. The one on the left mentions the naked fisherman in this one and filming taking place in October 1993.
The feature mentioned on page 8 is in 'The Minder Vault'.

Very good episode. Sidney gets more trouble than he imagines when he hires Arthur! The show seemed to end without seeing Dave's sister's reaction to Arthur destroying the caravan, nor Dave's reaction for that matter.

Watched this episode this morning and while not the best episode I enjoyed it. A good comedy episode with GC superb throughout. The exploding caravan scene was superb, I didn't expect Sidney to survive, but somehow he did, with Arthur asking if he had managed to grab his phone! I also liked Arthur giving directions whilst driving through Brighton. I liked the character of 'Bernie the Bosch' and his sinister look which scared everyone and the end part where he caught up with Arthur and Sidney in the Sally Army and they were bricking it only to discover Bernie had found the lord. I liked the closing titles scene also, just added to the episode. With regards to the Skinhead, with the facial tattoo, years ago, whilst doing my apprenticeship and cleaning up once everyone else had went home, I was sweeping the floor when I looked up and here was this guy with his whole head covered in tattoos staring at me, I just froze to the spot and didn't know what to do. Turns out he was the binman, looking for more buckets from the bakery along with a few free pies and cakes! I got to know him a little bit over the months and he said the thing he hates most about his tattoos were people staring at him! What you meant to do, even his eyelids were done, it wasn't a pretty sight. I'm not a big fan of tattoos full stop, but to put them on your face, just daft if you ask me, but each to their own.

I have to agree with myinspiration that this is a weak episode, but not without its compensations. The plot is pretty poor stuff but the scenes with them driving down to Brighton, the caravan going up in smoke and the seedy aftermath with them sleeping on the beach are well done - better than the script deserve probably.

I think they had a chance to take the episode in a darker direction, but kept to the comedy route, probably due to Andrew Sachs being in it.

I watched this on ITV4 the other day and enjoyed it, wasn't until after it had finished I remembered Andrew Sachs is no longer with us.

I'm only about three minutes in and this is already great! I loved Arthur's spiel about the thin blue line.
I found this highly enjoyable and thought it was a great way to mark 100 episodes of Minder. In the US I know Andrew Sachs from Fawlty Towers in which he was brilliant as Manuel. I thought he was excellent as Sidney and liked that he was paired with Arthur for so much of the story. Arthur and Sidney as well as George Cole and Sachs work extremely well together.
Lots of the usual George Cole magic throughout the episode. My favorite is Arthur flipping out on the guy slurping his soup which was laugh out loud funny and thinking about it now makes me smile.
I agree that the ending does leave some things left unresolved but it didnt effect my enjoyment of the episode. I did appreciate the twist to the story.

Andrew Sachs was clearly around for the 100th episode promotional shoot in Brighton, though never seen him in any shots with George & Gary, until now that is. There are plenty of photos from this shoot out there but nothing with Andrew Sachs present. However, here is one photo I came across:

Cheers daz - there is plenty more info out there, minder.org has always been a quest to discover as much about 'Minder' as possible. Working together, anything is possible. According to what I can find, I believe the picture shoot for the 100th episode promotion, all the shots on Brighton pier were either done on 1st July 1993 or 7th October 1993 .

I have always liked this episode, plenty of memorable moments, including the caravan exploding, and Arthur & Sidney, waking up on Brighton Beach, to an embarrassing sight.
I liked the scenes, where Arthur & Ray, were driving to Brighton, with Sidney, in the caravan, and when they were stopped by Traffic Cops, and Arthur pretending (to the Traffic Cop), that he didn't know Sidney, was in the caravan, poor old Sidney, suffered, on the journey to Brighton.
It was good to see different opening and closing sequences, for this special episode of Minder.
Whenever I see this episode, I can't help, but think of National Pelmet (one of my favourite Minder episodes, featuring Dennis Waterman ).

The second episode in a row to be mostly on location away from West London, and that always makes for a memorable change. Not a bad one this, with Arthur technically doing the minding this time! Andrew Sachs plays a great fed up Sidney, and the skinhead story has a good twist. Quite different and you wouldn’t want every Minder like this, but it’s a nice change.

This is one I don't watch very often, not keen on it at all. This really feels like the show running on empty with too many farcical elements. Much of the final series stands up but this one makes me think they were right to stop. In my bottom five amongst Dreamhouse, The Great Depression... etc

Just watched this for the first time and enjoyed it. Some great one-liners that had me chuckling to myself -as I always say, if something makes me laugh out loud when I'm watching alone then it is something special.
Nice unexpected twist at the end too.
Incidentally this is the first episode of the Ray years that I have watched all the way through

Incidentally this is the first episode of the Ray years that I have watched all the way through With the exception of 'The Great Depression of 1994', series 10 is the best Ray series for me and (as I've mentioned elsewhere on the forum) you wouldn't go far wrong watching the Ray series in reverse I feel (just watch episode 8.1 first to find out how it starts).
