Fighting it out for the top spot in 1973, Slade won the battle, but forced to choose (and sorry, there's no neither) what's your favourite?
Slade - Merry Xmas Everybody
Wizzard - I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday

Both fabulous... But Slade IS Christmas. And they were my favourite band as a kid. No contest, but the Wizzard track is great too.

I like both equally, but like so many seasonal hits, they've been played to death. I particularly dislike hearing Christmas music (or any music, come to that) in supermarkets and other shops.

I don't mind hearing Christmas music in shops at Christmas, but I do object to how early they introduce it.

I’ve got to agree with kelotoph I don’t like listening to music in shops especially at Christmas as it’s the same few songs repeated endlessly and it’s the same songs every year for the last 3 or 4 decades

Wizzard but as said above a lot has been played to death, why don't they play Christmas you never hear in shops or on the radio there are lots out there but they choose to play the same old carp like Wham and Mariah 'flaming' Carey If I had to choose another it would be this one as you never hear it in shops or on the radio (maybe to some that is a good thing but hey ho ) plus it is part of my childhood.

P.S. Wizzard for me. I actually think the Wizzard song is best too. However I voted for Slade because the Wizzard song has children singing in it, and I can’t stand children singing so I have been forced to vote against Wizzard. Children should not be allowed to sing near me ever. It turns me grumpy to the point of being homicidal.

AlanH, dear oh dear what a song title! Wizzard has always been the better song I think. Slade are great but they are all about Noddy's voice. Wizzard have the songwriter, the instruments and the better tune. It's just an all round better composition I think. That said they both have dodgy third verse lyrics in them, ... Slade (third verse): Do you ride on down the hillside in a buggy you have made? When you land upon your head then you've been slayed.Wizzard (third verse): I'll sign my name on the rooftop in the snow, then he may decide to staywww.sladediscography.co.uk/slade-ii---merry-xmas-now.htmlSlade II also attemped to recash in on the song by releasing this cack back in November 1994:

Never heard either song. Neither caught on here in the US, and I'm glad they didn't. Both are terrible.

Just been down to the co-op. Guess what was playing over the speakers? A clue... it was one of the two songs that are the subject of this thread. So you've got a 50/50 chance of getting it right.

And the winner is... Arch! Yes, it was Wizzard! Mind you, I bet if I had stayed in the shop for more than five minutes I'd have heard Slade as well. Or, of course, I might have just missed them. Either way, it's November 16th, so it must be Christmas!

Both videos look like parodies of that era's performances. They're hilarious. The crowd jumping up and down in the Slade video.

Pleasing to see that this is a tie, every time I look. Each time there's more votes but it's still a tie. Currently 5-5. Good to see love for both songs.
