I only recently saw her in an episode of 'The Gentle Touch'. She took the role of Mrs. McClusky and really made it her own, I get the feeling viewers weren't meant to like the character as much as they did as she could be firm at times and was no push over, i'd say she was the most famous headmistress character on UK television of all time hence a lot of press coverage following her passing. From what I can work out I think she was fond of the role and her time on 'Grange Hill' and I thought it a nice touch that she agreed to record some new lines to be used alongside the character of Molly in 'Ashes To Ashes'. RIP

I wouldn't have known her name and never watched Grange Hill but she turned up in a lot of comedy shows usually playing someone's mother. She was very good.

Like all of you I remember her best in Grange Hill as the diminutive but still formidable Mrs McCluskey, nobody dared call her Bridget the Midget to her face. As to other appearances, she was really good in an episode of early 70s crime series Villains, playing an accomplice of the bog-robbers.

Excellent in Grange Hill. Can't recall seeing her in much else so to me she'll always be Mrs McCluskey. The big shock is that she must have been in her thirties when she started on the series. Back then it seemed to me that Headteachers were only appointed when they were in their fifties, whereas now they're barely out of nappies. Forward thinking, Grange Hill! RIP.

Ah... Well, I've definitely seen that. Had forgotten Ms Powell featured but now you mention it, it does indeed ring a bell.

Grange Hill was a huge part of the children's TV landscape for those of us of a certain vintage, whose characters have became part of our lives for a number of years with lots of them held in great affection years afterwards.
Mrs McCluskey was certainly one of them and was sad news to read of her passing.
A lot of her ex Grange Hill pupils took to Twitter to write some lovely heartfelt tributes to her.
RIP Gwyneth
