Very, very sad to hear this terrible news.
Dame Olivia Newton-John (73) passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends. We ask that everyone please respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.
Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer. Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in her memory to the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund (ONJFoundationFund.org).
Olivia is survived by her husband John Easterling; daughter Chloe Lattanzi; sister Sarah Newton-John; brother Toby Newton-John; nieces and nephews Tottie, Fiona and Brett Goldsmith; Emerson, Charlie, Zac, Jeremy, Randall, and Pierz Newton-John; Jude Newton-Stock, Layla Lee; Kira and Tasha Edelstein; and Brin and Valerie Hall.

Shame, rest in peace.
Always thought she was a much better singer than actress and she might have got much more music in her.
don't know why, but I really love Xanadu she did with ELO.....this is one of my all time favourites.

Beautiful woman.
One of those deaths that seem partcularly untimely. For most of us she was a part of our youth. But then when you think of it Grease was made 45 years ago at this stage. Time sure is marching on.

Along with Judith Durham, Olivia is the second Australian icon to pass away in recent days. Sympathies are extended to our Antipodean bretheren on this site. I only have very vague memories as a child hearing her on the radio in the early 1970s, however as a pre-teen in 1978 I recall Grease (the songs from and the movie) being literally a pop culture phenomenon for us all that year. Grease Was The Word as the song went and Grease was the word, Olivia was perhaps the biggest female star in the world at that time, and for a time after. Had huge pop success in the 1970s and early 1980s also, she had four No.1 US singles in her own right in a nine year period, and a fifth US chart topper shared with John Travolta. Physical was one of the biggest hits, if not the biggest of 1981, spending a whopping 10 weeks at No.1 in the States, with a video that drew a lot of attention to say the least. Forgotten also is that she sang for the UK in the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest, fourth behind Abba, so no shame in that. Definitely wasn't expecting this announcement, though that's not to ignore that she's been fighting breast cancer for a very long time. A real cultural icon and among the biggest stars to come out of Australia. Very sad to hear this. RIP...

As I have said elsewhere, I think, I went to see Olivia singing at the Union Chapel in Islington early in 2017. She was touring with two other female singers as a trio. To be fair, although they were all good, everyone was really there to see Olivia. There was the biggest queue I have ever seen when I arrived (all the way down the street) and I'm thankful it wasn't raining! When I eventually got in I discovered that there had been £70 meet and greet tickets... but they'd inevitably all gone. I'm not a fan of these paid meet and greets, but would I have paid £70 to meet Olivia? Of course! It was a great venue - as seen in Who Dares Wins - and the highlight of the evening was when Livvy took centre stage and sang "I Honestly Love You". Needless to say, it got the biggest reaction of the night... the roof almost came off the place. There are videos of the gig on youtube. It was an unforgettable night and I'm so glad I went.
Goodnight Olivia. R.I.P.

It's weird. After the death of Judith Durham I dug out my old recording from about 1990 of The Seekers' 25th anniversary concert. And who introduced it? Olivia Neutron Bomb. Never thought I'd read the following day that she'd died as well.

Olivia had several strands to her career, appealing to UK, Australian and north American fans who each could call her their own.
One of my favourite songs of hers is 'A Little More Love', which seemed a very contemporary pop-rock song for its period (late-70s), amidst the 'Grease' songs which were everywhere.
R.I.P. Olivia.

Olivia started to re-brand / re-invent herself after Grease and took on the 'raunchy Sandy' look. Totally Hot is a great album and I remember A Little More Love being in the charts.

I like to remember the story Terry Wogan used to tell against himself after Livvy came second in the Eurovision Song Contest. '' Well I'm sorry to say that's Olivia's career finished. After that she went to America, became a country star, then did 'Grease'. What do I know?''. He told it better.

The really strange thing is that 'the gang' represented the UK for three years in a row. 1973: Cliff Richard. 1974: Olivia Newton-John. 1975: The Shadows. I think both John Farrar and Alan Tarney can be heard on all three. That MUST be worth some kind of mention in the official Eurovision book of Records! Two of Olivia's biggest 'country' hits were composed by former Shadow John Rostill - If You Love Me Let Me Know and Let Me Be There. The really sad thing is that Rostill never lived to see this success as he died in 1973. I see that Olivia will be having a State Funeral in Australia.

Just a few of the tributes. I think she was on the front page of every national newspaper... but I wasn't going to buy all of them! Sorry Livvy! R.I.P.
