The actor Paul Reynolds, who played Gino, he seemed destined for big things back in the 90s, but just seemed to fall off the radar. I remember him being in Trevor's World of Sport as Trevor's business partner Sammy - he was memorably sleazy in that and him and Neil Pearson worked well together. Seems to be concentrating more on the production side these days.

I liked the insurance clerks double act...the older one looked familar i think he was that bookie who never leaves his house in a early Terry episode? Likewise the boat on the main villain was also from an earlier episode too by my reckoning. The older man was Tony Steedman you may know him from his appearance in the series 1 Minder episode 'The Bounty Hunter' he's also been in 'The Sweeney', 'The Professionals' and was the third actor to portray Shirley's dad Charlie in 'Citizen Smith' he has appeared in many TV shows from the 50s to the 90's, I've always liked him, he died in 2001. The actor that played the agoraphobic bookie Albert Wendell 'Wendy' (my username) was Roger Hammond. Yes Lionel Haft who played Mervyn has appeared in previous Minder episodes 'In' & 'Minder On The Orient Express'. For fans of Paul Reynolds (Gino) check out his performance on 'Press Gang' (1989-1993) (highly recommeded series by me) where he played Colin who took a very Arthur Daley style to making money with various hair brained business schemes. On a different note when Arthur & Ray are watching Mervyn & Lucy in the restaurant two women walk past in blue coats the one nearest the window looks similar to the actress playing Mervyn's wife it isn't her but does look a little like her. I like others really like this episode and l also love how Arthur cool and calmly says the lockups on fire.

This time I was amused at how “Pizzaman” is used like a proper name. The name Pizzaman was used by the DJ & producers Norman Cook & John Reid from 1994-1997 they had various lower charting hits under the name 'Pizzaman' the best known being 'Sex On The Streets' in 1995. Music video here: linkAlso Atlantic 252 the radio station had a DJ called 'The Pizzaman' who was there from 1995-1998 an aircheck of him starting with a jingle using his name 'The Pizzaman' can be found here: link (from the songs played it's from sometime in 1997 around May judging by Suede and the Eels). Top notch episode to start the series, and I love the never seen Pizzaman character device - all you need is the look on Dave's face. This was classic stuff, classic deals, with Arthur attempting to juggle and scam and not quite making it - until Ray spots Mervyn and Lucy, or course. Instead of plod we had insurance brokers, which was well done. Great plot with a few threads running through it and a few turns to keep us on our toes, with a great ending - "there is no terror that cannot be faced"...........and then the phone rings! Excellent!

When Ray and Arthur follow Merv into the Bingo hall the camera focuses on a lady sat at a table and I'm sure she's the extra or actress that played Mrs McKluskeys secretary in Grange Hill.
