Liked this one so scored it excellent. It gives us the sight of Arthur Daley on a tube! I always thought that the tube and tube stations seem such an integral part of London it's a bit surprising they didn't feature in the Sweeney, Pros or Minder more often. But here is Arthur on one, and then coming across as most un London like when he blocks the barrier for several minutes because he has lost his ticket. Also, it is inferred that Dave forces Arthur into paying cash for his VAT. No more slate. Must be a new found assertiveness from Dave after seeing Arthur paying cash for the round in '9.9 Last orders at the Winchester' a few episodes back. Also linking this episode to 'Last orders at the Winchester', it is a bit surprising that Field had no idea that Gloria's fella was one Ray Daley. Indeed he seemed to hardly know or recognise Gloria even though she was at Ray's side during the auction at the end of Last orders at the Winchester. These continuity issues suggest that 'Last orders....' was filmed/written after 'The Great Trilby'. Good spot, doesn't mention filming dates for these 2 episodes on the ep guide, must be as you say, as Gloria's boat would be hard to forget! As for the lack of the Tube in the series, maybe permits and fees were involved and Euston didn't want the expense. I lived in London at the time and knew lots of regular young guys who never used the Tube. Owning a car in London wasn't the palaver it is now. Insurance, road tax, parking etc were all very cheap and easily affordable and the city was very easy to get around, even the West End.

Minder to me is at its best when in its London setting they were well of the mark with this one in my opinion

My second viewing of this episode this evening and I liked it slightly more than the first time. Some comical moments, I laughed at the farewell shindig put on at the Winchester for Arthur with the rendition of “Band Played Waltzing Matilda” sang by the punters also laughed at Dave’s quip behind the bar “ I always knew you’d make it to the top Arthur”

Not a favourite of mine this one, for several reasons, albeit I am being a bit pedantic. First, why is the McCabe character being so secret squirrel about following AD? If he is on the payroll to locate him then surely it would be a case of seeing him and introducing himself. Secondly, when he gives Arthur a lift on the motorbike, where does the second crash helmet come from? Not sure the pannier on the bike would have been big enough. And finally, my knowledge of the legal profession is such that although the solicitor is acting on behalf of Arthur for the inheritance, that does not make him a criminal law expert and in reality would have to decline attending the police station to allow someone more appropriately qualified to act. And the party at The Winchester, really? Arthur was not emigrating, he was going out there to try and claim an inheritance. Seemed a little OTT. However I do realise I am being pedantic but this to me just seemed a very average episode that was dragged out and acted purely as a pre cursor the the trip down under. Some good characters in it but it just seems very flat to me.

Good points bigaitch and I think, as you say you're teetering in the pendantic a little. The secret squirrel routine I put down to him clearly identifying him as Arthur Daley in his own mind. He's in a foreign country, Arthur lives in a dodgy world and McCabe is not revealing the possibility of top money unless he's certain?
I think the idea of the party was that Arthur had finally made his major earner lottery win style and this was a going away party for that reason.
Never thought about the second helmet, and it's a good point.

Good episode...i mentioned on a review of a previous episode in s9 that I didnt find it plausible how Morley was portrayed when nicking Winston...this was more like it ..hard but fair letting off Arthur so he coukd fly down under..likewise Field and Ray helping each other...I u derstand thks is Gloria's last episode ..i spose she"d run her course...there's only so many times you could watch Ray nawse it up with her..cos Arthur had done himself a mischief...or maybe she found out Ray was turning more and more into Tel when it came to one episode stands!

This episode was up and down for me. Lots of good lines but the plot continually taking us to nearly got there, or no we haven't, oh yes we have, which was a bit tiring. I sat there wondering what the point of the stolen cameras was until it came in the last frame. The plot was a good idea and fairly well executed and of course, leads us into the next couple of episodes. I'll miss Morley, Field and Gloria. Still an enjoyable episode but not top notch, so scores a Good.
